I completely disagree with Jibers that the players mentioned couldn't do what he does, it's such a small role and those players all have offensive and/or defensive advantages to Rakitic.

I am not his biggest fan but in Enrique's system, he is indispensable. I can think of only Koke who would have the discipline, tactical awareness and lungs to do the job Rakitic does. The names mentioned are a joke and wont be able to do the job Enrique demands of them.
It is difficult to explain but the best way to put it is that Rakitic acts as Messi's shadow and occupies spaces that Messi vacates(or should be in). All the while also covering the right flank and RCM.
Sounds really easy but it is an extremely difficult thing to do. Takes an immense amount of discipline, tactical intelligence and effort. I would urge you to watch our games more and watch what Rakitic does.
