fantastic manager, absolute legend, will be sad to see him go. PL will lose a part of its identity like it did when Fergie left.

Ungrateful scrubs taking him granted and insulting him week in week out are going to be so sorry next year when Arsenal are fighting West ham for europa league on the last match day of season.

I'm looking forward to bumping this thread in 2019 when Wenger's contract is running down again.

Nah. Blud and fam army has taken over. Bet Wenger watches ArsenalFanTV every night. Matter of time before he announces it to the press imo.

Thread is about two years too early. He's not leaving, our spineless board has already offered him a new contract.

Must probably be out of respect imo just to honour the man for what he has given to the club. I'm sure he'll reject it. Wenger ain't such a selfish guy to put himself above the club IMO.
You can thank me later btw.

Its time to go for him. He has been holding Arsenal back for a while now.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
Most underrated coach currently.
Noone, absolutely noone has a good word to say about him, yet he still keeps Arsenal above his hyped competitors, with a weaker team no less.
He's got his glaring weaknesses these days, but he deserves much more respect than he gets.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
^He overstayed his welcome. That's what happens. When he leaves/retires everyone will come out honoring him as they should. That doesn't mean he shouldn't go now and should have gone earlier.
He keeps Arsenal above his hyped competitors with a decade running start. Wenger has had the time to have Arsenal look exactly like what he wants. What is the result? (relative) mediocrity.
Other managers come and are expected to get it working in 1 or max 2 years. They have to make do with a lot of players from previous projects and adapt to them. Wenger doesn't have to do this because every player at Arsenal has been singed and groomed by him.
Him having a weaker team can NOT be an excuse, it his team. If its weaker then he was the one who made it weaker.
Then comes the actual matches and Arsenal just plays like no one cares. The whole thing looks jaded.
If no managerial changes were to be made for the next 2-3 seasons for the top teams in the PL, do you think Arsenal will win a league title?
If the answer is no then he has to go.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed claims that he is ready to step aside from his role as Gunners boss after 21 years in charge.
'We had a little dinner, not the two of us,” Wenger said. “I appreciate that you want me to rest, but I’m not ready for that.'

Rafa Benitez is the surprise name on a four-man shortlist drawn up by Arsenal of those who could replace Arsene Wenger if the Frenchman leaves this summer, claims the Sunday Mirror.

Nearly spit out my coffee when I read this. Then, I saw "Sunday Mirror".
I just want to point out that the Mirror ran an article referencing a four-man shortlist, headed by Thomas Tuchel, only 2 days ago. According to them, Benitez now leads their list... And, oh yeah, it's actually a 5-man list, not 4.

Allegri is an obvious candidate. He may be the only one on the Mirror's supposed list with the pedigree to achieve success immediately. Tuchel is an up-and-comer with a lot of potential but also his own brand-new, exciting project at Dortmund. The other names would be a bit more of a gamble. Roger Schmidt and Leonardo Jardim are both accomplished, but I'd question whether they could elevate Arsenal in the short-term.
Simeone is another name that has been paraded around the papers in the last year, but I actually think Luis Enrique (should he leave Barcelona) would be a great fit. He'd retain the fluid style that Arsenal supporters are accustomed to, while still contributing the fresh perspective that Arsenal supporters have been craving. With mumblings about his future at Barcelona, Arsenal might just be able to reach an agreement with all parties for his services.
I've said before on here, but I do think Wenger is seriously considering leaving this time. I realize there are a lot of similarities to previous instances. However, somehow, it feels different this time. Perhaps it simply that we've gone through another cycle of the love-hate relationship and qualified success that has defined Arsenal and Arsene in recent years.
As for Arsene, I was actually hoping to see him take the reigns of the French NT before he retires. I can't be the only one disappointed with Deschamps stubbornness through the previous World Cup and Euros cycles. I think Wenger could build upon the work of Blanc and Deschamps, potentially helping them to achieve something special in Russia 2018. But, perhaps he's missed his window for that...

Pool of European managers is lesser than than gene pool of European royalties.

Fixed it for you.
Everyone's pool is going to very, but I'd say most would agree that the following are considered elite:
Allegri, Conte, Spalletti(?) Ancelotti, Pep, Mourinho, Klopp, Wenger, Simeone, and Rafa...
I'm sure there will be some that argue for Zidane and Enrique, but I'd suggest they have yet to really make a name for themselves.
I'd personally argue for Pochettino, but he really needs to win something before he will be widely considered in the same category.

If he doesn't extend, I think he retires or goes to China. I can only see him coach France in the future, no other European clubs.

I think after what happened tonight there is no way Wenger can stay any longer. He has to go NOW.
