Re: Biggest flops of the season
I recall Juve fans, at least a bunch of them, wanting to sign him too, anyway I say give him another season before we completely write him off as an absolute flop. Of course this season he ranks near the top too.
Honestly IMO Alexis has to be a strong contender too, was meh at Arsenal and looks horrific for us, I wish we kept Mkhi - who I don't even rate that highly either.
A lot of these flops at least have some resell value but we're stuck with Sanchez until he's in diapers ffs

Re: Biggest flops of the season
I agree with you all about not writing Schick off yet and Karsdorp did get injured. Regardless of details, the transfer campaign was a disaster. That many players signed and none of those impacted their season at all. That's 5-6 players that had 0 real impact on how their season went. Very poor start from Monchi.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Schick's deal is pretty complicated. They havent spent anywhere near 40M, yet....
On 29 August 2017 Schick joined Roma on a temporary deal for a loan fee of €5 million. The club had a conditional obligation to buy the player once certain sporting objectives had been achieved, for an initial fee of €9m, plus bonuses of €8m. Moreover, if Schick was sold by Roma before 1 February 2020, Sampdoria would receive €20m or a 50% transfer fee, depending on which figure were greater. Nevertheless, Sampdoria would receive €20m in February 2020 if Schick has not been sold by the close of the January transfer window had closed. Including all possible bonuses, the €42 million price tag would surpass the previous club record transfer fee of €36m (Gabriel Batistuta)

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Cenzik Under is enough to not consider Monchi as flop
Donnarumma was flop this year imo too. About their CFs no doubts
About Inter, Dalbert of course . By far. I don't know if I must include Santon too , always been scrub even in Treble season...

Re: Biggest flops of the season
@Firenze that's why I don't single out Schick as one of the flops of the season. It's the transfer campaign as a whole that's poor.

True. But look at Under. He's already a 50M talent now and potentially in a couple of years time, they could finance the whole mercato( @Mole) with his sale.
He's bought average players for depth for little money who have flopped but the real task will be reinforcing the starting eleven when Roma go on a selling spree again some time in the future.
For me there's no doubt Mirabelli's done a much worse job than Monchi. Apparently Sabatini is being considered to replace him.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
I feel bias undertones are being used here. Statistically speaking, 2 goals from 21 appearances would be considered a flop (I would like to add Benzema's name to the list as well, thank you). Sure, there are various factors that should be taken into consideration but I doubt that's what this thread is about. Pretty sure it's price tag, hype and expectation.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Benzema for certain. For a CF on Real Madrid, this was the worst season I have ever seen I think. Anyone remember worse?
Morata at Chelsea flopped massively
Dybala in big games... and Hazard. I would check their genes for matching chromosomes.
Rashford/Martial/Pogba/Herrera/Bailly/Shaw for Man U. Common characteristic for all these guys.... they're not blunt instruments, is the best way to put it.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Considering we’re talking about flops of the season then it’s fair and easy to include Schick

Re: Biggest flops of the season
From Serie A i would say both Milan strikers were terrible.
Belotti was mediocre and Torino's president last year wanted 100m for him lol. Now he's begging for a 60m offer to sell him.
Schick also a failure but he's got the talent and next season will be more important for Roma I guess.
From our team...not sure who to pick. Many of our players had their ups and downs but most likely the most consistent underperformer has been A.Sandro.
Considering last year he was probably the best LB after Marcelo and now he has been benched sometimes by Asamoah...

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Yes totally forgotten about Belotti . Passed from being the new thing of Italian CFs, followed also from foreign big teams to 10 goals in 30 matches , and I think he scored a hattrick too. Very poor performances. It depended on injuries too, but it is not enough to justify him
Flopped hard against Real, but decisive on 2nd leg against Spurs.
Scored also on Serie A big games. So I 'd not say this.

I was going to forgive him lol
Antonio Candreva (Roma, 28 febbraio 1987)
0 GOAL
in 37 matches
Profession : Winger
Probably the main reason why we are going to miss CL place

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Candreva, in the Italian Serie A, has scored no goals this season, creating 71 chances and eight assists. Candreva has completed 925 passes this season with a pass accuracy of 82%, of which 57% were forward passes
Candreva is not a goalscorer IMO, his strength is 1 good cross out of every 10

Tolisso had a better season than Pogba and he hasn't even quite arrived yet

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Dzeko in his first season and even Belotti this season are the standards are what it is to flop as a striker. Schick never had much of a chance due to injuries. Same with Defrel. I'll consider them flops when they are healthy, but aren't actually scoring enough to justify their price tags.
I think Monchi gets the benefit of the doubt this season for me.

He had as many league goals in as many games, then then another three goals in CL where I'm not sure how many Pogba scored there? None, right. Admittedly it's hard to score when you're benched for the important game.
I'm not going to bother to check stats like passing accuracy or dispossessed as we all know how that is going to turn out.
Come to think of it, I think Pogba should be considered one of the flops of the season.

If I'm not mistaken, he didn't start off that well with Sevilla either. Give him time, he'll bring you a goldmine of talent.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Pogbito clearly was a top 10 player in the PL (7.48). Best United player by quite a margin (0.19) if we don't count Sanchez who only played a few games.
