arsenal need to do the same i.e. invest heavily in the squad and hope it comes good. if you look at the arsenal balances sheet there is just 200 M pounds of cash sitting there doing nothing. even if arsenal spend half of that in transfers they would drastically improve the squad.
The problem we have is that for accounting purposes, each signing needs to be expensed instantly, so if we spend 100M, we get a 100M expense in our income statement and this would result in us being unprofitable (and therefore face UEFA / FA sanctions for not being financially stable). We have to be cheap even though we have the cash.
Personally, I think this is a ridiculous accounting standard and not similar to other industries where usually a company would capitalize an investment and then amortize to expenses over the life of the contract. For example, say you're a manufacturing company and buy a machine to use over 5 years: you would capitalize it on your balance sheet and then depreciate it every year 1/5 (with 1/5 of the original cost hitting your income statement as an expense) every single year until the balance = 0. I think it should be the same for player transfer fees: if we drop 100M because right now we have the cash, we should be able to claim the expense over the life of the player contracts rather than all at once to better reflect the economic reality of the transaction.
The accounting standards in place must have been dictated by an agenda to keep clubs from being unsustainable and being 'profitable' despite spending all their cash, but we are the perfect example of the flaws in the accounting standard because it is directly holding us back from investing in new players. If other clubs become unsustainable because they over-spend, let them suffer, not a club like us that has a ton of cash and no ability to spend it.
...this is what happens when you're an accountant footy fan with nothing to do at work.

We're being linked with Carrasco, why was he shipped to China so quickly?

Carrasco is a decent player but only a squad player for a top side imo. We'd be better suited spending our money elsewhere for me.

Yannick Carrasco (25) has been offered to Arsenal, who are searching for a winger. Player will have to take a pay cut. #AFC have a limited transfer budget. Carrasco willing to leave Dalian after one year in China. pic.twitter.com/c2oC3LiHTK
— Kristof Terreur (@HLNinEngeland) January 9, 2019
As Terreur goes on to say, players are offered to clubs all the time. Doesn't mean those clubs can afford to do the deal. With our low budget this month and a huge wage bill, it's difficult to see this one happening unless it's another loan.
Carrasco is a weird player, in any case. He struggled for consistency at Atletico and didn't seem to get on very well with Simeone. That he left for China at the ripe old age of 24 suggested that his head wasn't in the right place, or that he lacked the ambition to make a name for himself at another good European club. Either way, I don't think he's the easiest player to work with.
On the other hand, plenty of wide players struggle at Atletico, because Simeone demands a lot out of them. They have to track back, tuck in to support the central midfielders, be disciplined, but also be counter-attacking threats and create for the strikers. Thomas Lemar is currently struggling there as well.
So maybe there's still a good player in there somewhere. Going to China isn't necessarily the death knell for a player's career, as Paulinho and Axel Witsel have shown.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Carrasco is polar opposite of Suarez, he’s something like a trickier Kolasinac, loves to use his strength and speed. I like him at A. Madrid tbh. While Suarez is highlight reel player, Carrasco is not. Out of those two, I take him over Suarez, attitude aside. I can see some pressure, balance down the wing, somethings I cant with Suarez. Paulinho did quite well after leaving China and shown no attitude problem at Barcelona.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Not technically strong or fast enough for my liking. If this is the kind of player we‘re looking to sign then I would not be surprised to see us go after Ivan Perisic soon.
Suarez is quicker, more creative, better passer, better close control, Carrasco is more of a goal threat in the way Podolski was, he can really smash it and dribbles with power rather than finesse.
I would choose Suarez over Carrasco any day because we don‘t need goal threat as much as creativity and chances created for Aubameyang and Lacazette.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Denis Suarez is an attacking midfielder. Plays 8 for Barca (whenever he actually gets on the pitch), played LW for Villareal and LW/RW for Sevilla.
The comparison is made because Emery talked about Denis Suarez as a wide player, so there's the assumption that Arsenal wouldn't sign two wide players in the same window.

Right. I didn't know that, then I was wrong. Whenever I saw him at Barca it looked like he was playing in central midfield, and positioned rather deep

Club Not having money to spend might as well be blessing in disguise
prevent us from more stupid signings
close the window already unless there is smart under the radar signing
No thanks to D.Suarez or Carrasco unless its 6 month loan without an option/obligation to buy

So sounds like Ramsey is moving to Juventus and getting paid £140,000 p/w. Which compared to Ozil's £350,000 p/w sounds like peanuts.
But then I read that Ramsey is getting paid more than Dybala and only less than Ronaldo at Juventus. So Ozil is really getting crazy overpaid.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
#DalianYifang could replace #Carrasco (he wants return in Europe) with Dimitri #Payet from #OlympiqueMarseille. #Arsenal is talking with Carrasco and has offered a transfer on loan with option to buy. Chinese club prefers a permanent deal. #transfers #AFC
— Nicolò Schira (@NicoSchira) January 9, 2019
So this is what being a Serie A club not named Juventus is like.
Meanwhile, things have gone a bit quiet on the Denis Suarez front. The latest on that seems to be that Barcelona want a sale now or a loan with a mandatory purchase option, while Arsenal just want a loan with an option to buy. Basically, Barca want a guarantee that they'll get money for him but we can't afford to pay that now. We probably could in the summer, but I guess we'd want to see if he's any good for us before committing. Reportedly, Suarez only wants to join us.
One wonders if this Carrasco noise is all part of the game to get Suarez.
Else where, we've apparently extended Monreal's contract by a year and have told Championship clubs that Willock and Nketiah won't be going on loan this month.
(Incidentally, Arsenal have promoted one of their football analysts, Ben Knapper, to "Loans Manager". This is a specialist role that takes care of all the players going out on loan, which some top clubs have been using for a while now. Maybe now we won't destroy our young player's careers with shitty loan deals.)

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I believe that Carrasco wants to return to Europe, hence all this noise from his camp but no reliable source has yet confirmed our interest.
Ornstein did mention Suarez and so did Emery so I believe we‘re working on that still.

El Desmarque doesn't go into detail, but I have seen a report from Marca saying we're practically been "poor beggars" who are even arguing over loan fees. So I imagine the "final stage" is agreeing on how much money we're going to give to Barca to loan Suarez in the first place.

How is it even possible that arsenal football club doesn't have any money to spend. I think its all a smoke screen to lower the transfer prices.

Probably bullshit but posting anyway:
Estadio Deportivo can exclusively confirm that #AFC have made a formal contract offer for Ever Banega: 3yrs with an optional 4th; £7m PA in wages. Player is considering the proposal which took him by surprise as it meets his ‘impossible’ demands.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If the AST's estimations are anything to go by, we've actually made a significant operating loss in the last financial year.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/10/17/arsenal-supporters-trust-will-voice-concerns-chairman-expected/
It's unconfirmed until the club's accounts for the last financial year are published, but if we have made a big loss, then it only follows that the transfer budget is going to shrink.
Basically, Arsenal's wage bill and transfer expenditure are at all-time highs, during a time where we've been bottlenecked by our commercial deals, have missed out on Champions League revenue and haven't had any major player sales. The club hasn't generated enough money in the last couple of years.
Now at some clubs, the owner will cover the expenses so spending is still possible, but obviously that's not going to happen at Arsenal. Cost controls will take effect instead.
On the bright side, we have two new major commercial deals coming into effect in the summer (stadium naming rights and the new Addidas deal) and will have the opportunity to move on some player assets to free up wages and gain some extra funds. All going well, we might even have CL football on top of that.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We missed out on a lot of money with our transfer dealings over the past few years. I'm sure we will have some money by the summer but we can't afford to be ripped off anymore.
Unfortunately this loan business nearly guarantees that we're not signing a CB in January. Top CBs are at a premium and I don't see any club just loaning one away unless our option to buy is very high, which obviously won't be the case. Our one hope is Benatia since he wants out of Juve, but Juve is in no dire need to do anything on that front as they can easily let him rot on their bench until needed.
