Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Season got increasingly good when the main cast appeared again after the first half of jobbers ruining the series.
That ending of season 5 ffs Last 4-5 eps were incredible
season 6 now

Boracchuch is a great series. First season is outstanding, the rest good not great. David Tenant and Olivia Coleman are among the very best TV actors out there.

Finished Lost.
Lost for words.
Need few days to process my thoughts but it is probably one of the best shows I have seen. Most enjoyable as well. Can see why it gets the praise it does.
But you can also see where they went wrong towards the end.

absolutely one of the all time greats. Love it, warts and all. Haven't watched an episode since it finished airing back in 2010 so I'm 100% gonna rewatch it sometime.

Yeah the thing about Lost was that it always made you feel on the edge of some discovery, made for great conversations the day after.
New trailer out:
So I haven't read the books since I was in middle school, and remember nothing of the plot, but I think this looks quite good. Looking forward to it.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
*sorry might contain spoilers, don't read if you still plan on watching Lost*
Lost was in a way, the quintessential cliffhanger show, it was so great at building up, slowly, thoroughly, a feeling of mystery, suspense and anticipation, and at shocking you into suspense by its revelations.
Which is of course also why I think the letdown of how they actually had the thing play out was so absolutely terrible.
The show was absolutely fantastic in building up existential question marks, or conjuring up mysterious and paranoid feelings, and it should have been absolutely clear that there is NO WAY whatsoever "answers" could be given to that.
So that, back when the fan craze was going on between seasons, and I remember it well because I was in the midst of it (first time for me I was binging a show like this, first two seasons like a fever, and then later waiting for the next seasons, watching the webisodes, browsing fan forum for theories and thoughts and observations, looking back I guess I was a 'Lostie' lmao), and the fans were 'demanding answers' as they were suspicious that the writers didn't actually know the exit to the maze they were drawing up, the writers quite clearly misunderstood, and answered it, this in the worst way.
They gave LITERAL answers to mysteries that could never be literally answered.
That's when you end up with absolute crap like two stupid mythical guys in ancient history wearing sandals and shit, just because they trolled the fans with a cliffhanger revelation about some ancient statue standing on the island many seasons before, and this mystery has to be solved.
Also, the whole thing reinforces the fundamental problem about time travel narratives- which is if time travel is possible and happening, any narrative becomes completely random (or partially depending on how well defined the time travel element is), it could always be done over or not be actually a definitive action, and there's no before and after- which completely nullifies the sense of determinism, the sense of absolute purpose and complete paranoia that constituted such a huge part of Lost's appeal.
Which is why for me, Lost is a story of monumental disappointment and sheer fraudulence, precisely because it was so good.
If they weren't frauds, they would have found a way to keep the mystery alive and not bombard the viewer with random and total crap. Less answers, not more.
Instead, for me these guys are the biggest frauds ever.
And since Lost, I'm fundamentally wary and suspicious of narrative TV shows that become very successful and then run very long. At some point you're just bound to get the feeling they're making it up as they go along, which is what they're doing, and for me that's a killer of any serious attempt at narrating a story and creating characters.
Not talking about pop corn, not so serious, or procedural shows, they can string along much better.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Lost's finale was one of the worst (season or series) finales I have ever seen. I have only watched this show in its entirety 1 time (the initial watch) and I watched that finale 10 years ago. I still absolutely seethe about the outright nonsensical ride that show took me on.
As for His Dark Materials, it's firmly near the top of my watchlist along with Watchmen.

Thing about His Dark Materials is that the 3rd book is kind of a shitshow. Can't imagine how they would pull it off.

Haven't read any of them honestly. All I know about this world is what I saw in that Golden Compass movie they did about 10 years ago. I've added it to my Audible list though.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
FX has announced that Jack Huston, Jason Schwartzman and Ben Whishaw are amongst a dozen new cast members to join the forthcoming fourth season of the anthology series “Fargo”. They join previously announced comedian Chris Rock in the lead role.
Set in 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri and revolves around two criminal syndicates – one Italian, one African-American – with Rock playing the head of the latter. To cement an uneasy peace, the heads of both families have traded their eldest sons.
Things take a turn when the Italian syndicate head goes into the hospital for routine surgery and dies. Schwartzman will play a character by the name of Josto Fadda, Whishaw is Rabbi Milligan and Huston will portray Odis Weff.
Also hopping onboard are Jessie Buckley, Salvatore Esposito, Andrew Bird, Jeremie Harris, Gaetano Bruon, Anji White, Francesco Acquaroli, Emyri Crutchfield, and Amber Midthunder.
Noah Hawley will again return as showrunner, writer and director. The fourth season is set to air in 2020.
Let's hope it's better than Season 3, which was good in its own right, but not at the level of the first 2 seasons.

Not so sure about it. Will see how the reviews go once the first season is done.

Best series on netflix right now or in general in the past decade? Anyone got a top 20 or smth?
I'm starving for a good show after Stranger Things.
Been thinking about 'Dark' and just noticed 3rd season of Casa de Papel came out on netflix so definitely gonna check out that but its only 8 episodes.

Master of None also. Season 2 is an absolute masterpiece. Glow is pretty good.
Haven't seen Russian Doll yet, but it is supposed to be incredible.

Not understood
It 's on Netflix
Anyway Sons of Anarchy and Dark my favorite Netflix series by far
I've taken away Mindhunter after first 3-4 episodes
Perhaps I should give another chance to this but atm I am on Billions and it is great ( but it's not on Netflix)

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
It’s because series that are on Netflix which aren’t made by Netflix aren’t available in every country. So it’s hard to call them Netflix series.
Not a bad mistake though.
I’ve seen actual professional writers in Denmark call friends and the office “Netflix series”
