Weekly reminder that the refs in this league suck.

Managed to disallow a good goal for offside even with VAR in use. The easiest decision to give using technology (pause play > draw a line > done) and they still get it wrong.

Meanwhile, I'm not feeling Machin as Sevilla coach so far. His approach is to give the ball to Navas and hope he can beat someone 1v1 and get a good cross in. I don't know if he's watched Navas in the last five years.

Playing this poverty three at the back doesn't help either. Can't comprehend why anyone would leave out Ben Yedder or Promes for a third centre back.

Yeah, I have little to no complaints about the referreeing, thus far. Especially, considering who the main ref is. I think the use of VAR in that situation showcases how inefficient it can be, though.

Yeah VAR never called offside.

Also was borderline eligible for an offside as it looked like Espanyol played him the ball

It didn't do anything incorrectly, it simply marked a substantial break in the game due to how inefficient it is in it's current format. Jesus, do you have to scrutinize everything? You know what, Hunky Dory.

Main thing VAR has showcased is how obsolete linesmen are. Absolutely no reason for them calling offsides ever.

I agree. I think they should be completely replaced by VAR, but first, the communication between the main ref and the person who watches the live footage needs be more time efficient. Of course, if you take the linesmen out of the equation, then that alone speeds things up.

Sevilla just scored 5 goals in 38 minutes. Ben Yedder with a hattrick.

Sevilla hadn't scored in three games and hadn't won at Levante since 2015. Not a bad day's work.

Madrid will wreck them if they start Banega-Vazquez-Sarabia in midfield though.

That's a fantastic idea for a concept. The current way of communicating between the main ref, the linesmen and the person supervising VAR, seems like a really inefficient method to me. I like to think that the topic of VAR has been discussed, dissected and reasoned upon by people who know what they're doing, but I for one, don't think the current format is ideal.
