De Gea is done, surely. They could have taken 100 pens against him and he wouldn't have saved one.

Was a shite final overall. Can't fault Villareal's tactics in the 90 and they looked the more likely to score in extra-time. United had zero ideas in attack against a deep block, which is a familiar story for them.

Starting with three forwards was questionable, and then OGS spending all game looking miserable without making any changes... not his best night.

Last year United's lack of good bench cost them against Sevilla. It cost them again tonight.

You know, obviously I have no proof to what I'm about to say and it's just a hunch, but I feel the failed move to Madrid broke him. He was never the same after that.

I mean, remember how scary good he was under Van Gaal? What could cause a goalkeeper to lose such a GOAT form in just a few years?

To be fair, it could be because he simply regressed. It happens. But I feel like the issue is more psychological than anything else.

Nah he was good after the failed move too. It was summer 2015 that the fax machine saga happened. His downfall started last World Cup.

I think its gotta do with the rules change iirc, that GK are required to have one football on the goalline b4 the ball is kicked, whereas in the past they were able to do move across the line? And often they got away with walking a few steps forward which gave them advantage. I remember Martin Tyler said he was be amazed if GK still be able to save pens at one point.
