Ribery officially out. He's had a bad back since January and he just can't get rid of it. He may need surgery and be out all of next season too if it doesn't get better. Lower back issue.

A shame... this was his last WC.

Although I am Italian and France is our main football rival ... this is really sad . It is sad to know even Ribery will miss this cup . I've never remembered a WC with so many injures of important players . Italy lost his best CF , France his star , Colombia lost Falcao etc just Suarez recuperated luckily but he was close to miss too

I'm game with trolling normally Gil... no issues. But not when a player gets injured. That crosses the line for me.

And yes, this team is all about Benz now. It's his job to lead. We'll know really quickly if he can be the main guy on a team or not. It's actually good info for clubs.

I am not too bothered about Ribery being out tbh. Griezmann is in excellent form and imo he will do a better job than Ribery. Obviously it would have been better with Ribery in the squad but it's not as big of a loss as it would have been with other players.

Regarding Benzema. If Giroud outperforms Benzema again in the next friendly, will he start the first match at the WC?

Not a chance. In a 433 and with Griezmann being a striker, they need a CF that can move around and switch zones and roles on the attack... Giroud is far, far behind Benz at this time even if Ribery was there.

Btw, for me, if France plays well and Benz doesn't score much but helps France score by being a playmaker, i'm fine with that... i just want to see him impose himself on the games. The way Benz plays, that doesn't necessarily mean scoring.

I just got to know this. He was never my favourite player but I am almost weeping for him now. It was his last world cup. I would have really liked to see how he would sign off. This is terrible. I rated France pretty high in my predictions. Now do I go back and redo everything?
