How highly do you rate Sergio Ramos?

Oh yeah forgot Otamendi, well it's a coin toss between them, but seeing how Ramos had to carry Cronaldo, when Otamendi was part of team defence, I would say Ramos deserved it. Pique was good also, but part of team dynamic again.

Otemendi was a class above everyone last season, his big game performances had nothing to do with team dynamic.

His performance vs MSN away from home was a better defensive performance than anything Ramos did in his life most probably.

Valencia defended as a team, parked a bus. It's easier to defend individually that way when the team is compact. Nevertheless Barcelona won both games. Ramos scoring 3 times in semi-final and final to carry Madrid to CL-title in 2014 is probably the best performance of a defender ever in Spanish history. But try to explain that to fixated posters who only have a narrow view, and only complain when attackers don't run to help defenders.

Totally irrelevant to what Otemendi did. He was tackling Neymar and Messi in 1 v 1's with no back up. Everyone already knows its harder to defend when your team isnt organised, but lets also not pretend Madrid are out there playing kamakize football. They arent a great defensive team, but they arent bad either.

Mentioning Ramos scoring goals is ridiculous, especially when I said defensive performance.

Defininton of a hit or miss. He either plays really excellent or he cant even pass a ball to a DM. He also has a knack for getting a red card at the worst moment possible.

Nah seriously though he must go down as one of the best defenders of Spain, no ones perfect and hes had some bad moments, but to be captain of Real, being the main defender for so many years for them, he can be that bad. Overall he is one of the best out there like it or not.

I still think the guy should play DM or SB. His actual game reading isn't too stellar at all.

I still consider him WC though. For a Defender he has all the other tools to excell. Mainly the Physical & Mental aspects of his game but he's also somewhat Technical and has an Offensive dimension to his game which is why he scores so much.

I always preferred him as RB. His ball playing skills are too good to be left out the back and his awareness is too bad to be trusted as the last man standing in defence.

Ramos is a blockhead...  you guys only saw him at the end.  One of the big reasons we were so far behind in La Liga was that he was atrocious on defense for the first half of the season (hence the Man U rumors because he was on the verge of being dropped).

Remembering a CB for his goals rather than his defense is not a good thing.

Don't think it's a coincidence Ramos and Pepe look much better with Casemiro. Let's be honest, when's the last time we seriously had a proper DM like Casemiro? Ramos and Pepe are all out lunge in defenders. Having Casemiro helps immensely

This. He's not a shit defender though. Just plain bad. Consistency is key as a defender and Ramos makes 1-3 crucial mistakes every game.

I can't believe he was voted Man of the Match His most memorable contribution was to even out the disadvantage he gave his team by conceding a penalty. For me, Carvajal was MOTM before he even scored the winning goal. He completely shut down his side defensively, and hardly put a foot wrong in attack. Not to mention, that he never looked tired.
