Preliminary Line-Up of the German U21 NT for the U21 Euro (needs to be cut to 23 players still):

Looks like we have a severe goalkeeper problem - Horst Hrubesch has to decide whom to leave at home of the four...

GKs: Timo Horn (1. FC Köln), Loris Karius (FSV Mainz 05), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen), Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona)

Defense: Matthias Ginter (Borussia Dortmund), Christian Günter (SC Freiburg), Dominique Heintz (1. FC Kaiserslautern), Robin Knoche (VfL Wolfsburg), Julian Korb (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Willi Orban (1. FC Kaiserslautern), Nico Schulz (Hertha BSC), Jeremy Toljan (1899 Hoffenheim)

Midfield: Maximilian Arnold (VfL Wolfsburg), Leonardo Bittencourt (Hannover 96), Emre Can (FC Liverpool), Kerem Demirbay (1. FC Kaiserslautern), Johannes Geis (FSV Mainz 05), Leon Goretzka (Schalke 04), Joshua Kimmich (RB Leipzig), Felix Klaus (SC Freiburg), Moritz Leitner (VfB Stuttgart), Yunus Malli (FSV Mainz 05), Max Meyer (Schalke 04), Amin Younes (1. FC Kaiserslautern), Jean Zimmer (1. FC Kaiserslautern)

Forwards: Serge Gnabry (FC Arsenal), Philipp Hofmann (1. FC Kaiserslautern), Kevin Volland (1899 Hoffenheim)

Hrubesch decided not to call up Julian Draxler, Shkodran Mustafi, Erik Durm and Mario Götze even though they would still have been eligible.

Gnabry's inclusion will depend on his fitness. Been training fine but haven't played any competitive match in a year I think.

Still nice to see him being called up.

The U21 call-up is still very preliminary. There will be several players still eliminated from the line-up. Could be that Horst Hrubesch just wants to see where Serge Gnabry stands right now.

MAtS will join the fun later as he still has to play in the CL final, but I'm really curious who of MAtS and Bernd Leno will become the number 1 and who of Timo Horn and Loris Karius will have to stay at home.

I hope Gnabry will be included, he's been playing well since returning from injury and needs game time.

Hell, Gnabry is like the closest thingn to a striker in that squad, him and Volland. I don't see how he can be removed tbh.

Alexander Meier is 32 and a real box striker. (="Sometimes you won't see anything of him during the full 90 minutes of a match - only the line-up gives away his participation. But when he finally gets to the ball, he often needs only this one contact to score.")

So he is not really a good idea if you want to have a striker who is involved in the play from defense to attack. Plus at 32, he's not really a youthful prospect anymore.

Arrggl... Looks like the people outside of Germany did it and convinced the DFB to do a rebranding and actually call our good ol' Fußballnationalmannschaft "Die Mannschaft" only from now on

Please excuse me while I do a couple of head-desks now...

Liked Hermann, Hector, and Rudy looked promising despite being horribly out of position for the equalizer. The US lead was just due to nobody giving a shit, that's Germany in friendlies, it's not like it surprised any of us.

But can we still sack Löw? That would be neat.

Löw hates Tony Jantschke, and he is better than all defenders that were on the pitch today. Sad

Whilst I know it's meaningless, the way players are categorised in these call ups really bugs me. Whilst I understand the argument for listing Mueller, Reus and Shirley as midfielders - though I don't know what Poldi is doing there Laughing - why is Goetze then a forward?

At least they're not simultaneously listed with someone like De Sciglio, as under Conte.
