Who can play as a false 9?

What current past or present players could play the false 9 role at Barca or anywhere else? What is needed to be successful in the false 9 role?

Don't care if anyone can or can't do it as well as Messi just want to know who you guys think could fill this role.

Alot of people can play the role.

Ibra is the obvious choice to be honest...or perhaps Aguero but you make some sacrifices either way.

Gotze,Cruyff,Pele,Nerman,Cesc,maybe Aguero off the top of my head

Nerman as a false 9 for us:4 goals 2 assists in the past 3 matches

Neymar, Aguero, Tevez, Benzema, Rooney and Suarez.

Although Fabregas can score and assist, I don't think his dribbling is good enough.

Well for me benzema is a good example of one. Ibra has always been a false nine but has been deployed at striker. The best way to actually know what false nines are is to watch the players in comparison to strikers like falcao, rvp, etc.

And what's so funny about that josh? He's fast, has a good touch, excellent movement, and a good shot.. he wouldn't be that bad.

cr doesnt have the passing skills.I honestly cant remember him even trying a through ball

It's not even entirely about passing. The guy has never played that role...his saving grace in his ability to go past fullbacks on the wing using pure speed is completely nullified.

But you want him to be the link between attack and defense? play between the lines and drag apart defenses?.

For that you need certain assets he doesn't possess.

He can be a very effective wing forward at Barca , but to play him through the centre and to ask him to link attack and defense is begging for the system to break down.

He does them, not like ozil, but its not like hes gomez.. he's an above average passer.

CR has a great touch josh... its like we just slate CR for losing the ball and not benzema or the rest of the team..

Messi plays the best as a false nine. Surarez could succeed there as well as Neymar. An Aussie mention and hopefully Kizz may look at this but I reckon Robbie Kruse has the elements to succeed as a false nine.
Ibra, RVP, Ronaldo or Tevez imo would not suit the false nine position as they dont have the elements of a good F9. Imo, to be one you need to be able to move in tight spaces, have good vision, come back and build up play, have good close ball controll. Just some of the elements. F9 doesn't just score goals like a centre forward but set up goals.

I dont consider Ibra, Benzema, Aguero, etc to be false 9s. They may jot be traditional target men, but theyre not that far off that they woild be considered false 9s. Totti, Del Piero, Baggio, Messi, Ronaldinho, Zidane, etc would be/are great false 9s, as they are fsr different from target men. They are 10s, whereas guys like Benz and Ibra are like a 9 1/2 already. Just the way i look at it.
