Re: Celtic out to get Juve
Celtic will ask UEFA for their view on the way Juventus defended at set-pieces in their Champions League tie on Tuesday.
The Old Lady won the game 3-0, but Celtic boss Neil Lennon was less than impressed with the referee’s decision to not punish the “grappling” tactics of the Italians.
“As I said after the game, 10 or 11 years ago we got a penalty against Juventus in the exact same circumstances,” the former midfielder noted.
“The player was warned about grappling with Chris Sutton, the corner comes in, he did it again and the referee gave a penalty. Have the rules changed since then?
“You don't see our players doing that. There were pictures of the shirt coming off Gary Hooper's back - credit to him for keeping his cool.
“We needed a strong referee and we didn't have that,” he continued. “We'll compile a DVD and send it off and just look for an explanation on some of the decisions. The referee didn’t do his job.
“It's a myth that Juventus did their homework. That's rubbish. Juventus defend like that week-in, week-out in Serie A.
“If anything we had done our homework and we made sure the referee was aware of it and he was looking at it time and again and Juventus went unpunished.
“Gianluca Vialli said we should have had two penalties. Former referees Graham Poll and Dermot Gallagher…
“Trevor Francis said that even in his time playing in Italy it was never as blatant as what we saw the other night, so these guys can't all be wrong and the referee right.”

Re: Celtic out to get Juve
This is the same Celtic who not so long ago moaned about being treated unfairly by the officials and then somebody looked at the penalty stats and they had the most penalties rewarded and close to the least conceded.
They don't belong in the CL with rubbish like this. Moaning about the reff is one thing, everybody does it. But compiling a fkn DVD of alleged fouls is disgusting.
They only got into the R16 via a penalty from a blatant dive.

Re: Celtic out to get Juve
I do agree that referee needs to start doing something about the shirt pulling on every corner. I mean sometimes they are just taking the piss..
Like this one..
And the arguement that "if they would start giving penalty for every shirt holding in every corner, there would be 10 penalties per game" doesn't work for me for the simple fact that if the ref gives 2 or 3 penalties for shirt holding in a game, the defenders would stop holding the shirts immediately.

Celtic must be kicked to 3rd division scottish football. Because if people see a well known football club commiting acts of piracy then people will think it's ok for them to do it.
We must act swiftly to prevent this from happening.

Italians and their grabbing. One of them should have been sent off for some of the reckless unneccesary grabbing...

Thought you would love it. Read the rules, watch the game again and then respond to me. You either don't know the rules or you didnt watch the game.

Re: Celtic out to get Juve
Okay, Hooper blocking Buffon and also pushing Lichtsteiner (Who had his arms raised most of the time, you probably watched a Celtic fans youtube video) is fine but when Licht retaliates it's a red. Hmmmm okay buddy. Not to mention the ball wasn't in play during the wrestling inside the box and the refferee hadn't even given the corner kick taker permission to take the corner.
Yes every shirt pull should be a red, any physical contact should be stamped out of the game and we can spend the next 50 years watching non-contact football where being physical has no advantages. We can watch a bunch of 5 ft 6 players excell in the modern game and it will all be sunshine and rainbows.
Wow people who have such a soft view on the game are helping ruin the sport.

Re: Celtic out to get Juve
This is ridiculously classless. Lennon should stop clutching at straws here, Juventus were far better on the night.

Oh and since you're banging on about rules, the actual rule is that you can't give a penalty if the ball isn't in play. Neil Lennon and Celtic 'Underdog love story' bandwagoners can stop crying for penalties.

Re: Celtic out to get Juve
Hopefully, I liked the Celtic 'Road to Wembley' one with the Celtic fan smashing up a Juventus badge. That swiftly disappeared.
God knows how much I hate Celtic, classless idiots with a little gremlin of a man for a manager. A gremlin who never shuts up.

Re: Celtic out to get Juve
so let me ask you guys something....
Let's say the they got 2 penalties and scored...
The games finished 2-3...
U really think Celtic is gonna come to Juve Stadium & win 2-0?
So what difference does it make?

I'm confused. In Serie A are you allowed to physically grab your oppoenents when marking? Same thing happend when we played Inter in CL.
