I missed most of the first half, I thought alright I will watch this video..everyone talking about how great he was, I saw nothing really impressive in the 2nd half..must of of been the 1st half he did so good.

Im not surprisingly unimpressed. 97% passing accuracy really lacks meaning when you make like 20 passes (I have no idea how many he actually made, but it was low).

I will say though, he at least runs, presses and plays with dynamism.

The video does a bad job of showing it but he did a great job controlling the tempo and his assuredness in possession and alertness when without really helped stamp Madrid's mark on the game.

I have already praised Alonso to no ends for his performances in both legs.

Yet for Xabi's composure in creating a metronome for attack was Modric playing a sacrificial defensive role in which he performed superbly to all of Carlo's mind-boggling instructions. Whether it be deep in the box assisting the gaps left by the CBs or simple screening the midfield to anticipate their passage of play. Modric may be overrated in his attacking qualities yet since Mourinho came in, his defensive performances have been overlooked and in both ties he was nothing short of fantastic in the defensive end.

Not only defensively, but he was great at retaining the ball, picking out passes and launching counter-attacks over both games, especially tonight. :bow:

I liked him attacking tonight better than the first leg. When he struck out for choosing poor positions to receive the ball, he tracked back, used the defence as a wall and pinged back the ball to the offensive end, having a lot of pressure relieved from the defence. Like Xabi his on-ball performances (both legs) were by no means masterclass' yet each time they received it they passed into intelligent areas and kept the semantic ticking.

Yet the sacrifice and discipline he put in defence has to earn my respect for him. Hopefully he'll show stuff like this more in the future. Can also evolve his game by improving in defence as he ages.

Main difference for us why we dominated Bayern IMO.

Last time we met, we basically gave the ball away everytime it reached our midfield.

Our main man Luka can hold the ball, and the way he gathers the attention of three players of theirs all the time and still manages to get the ball through destroyed them in counters. And his defending and work rate!! :bow:
