End of an Era, so lets reform! Empty End of an Era, so lets reform!

Post by Grooverider Wed Apr 24, 2013 10:11 pm

After last nights crushing defeat to Bayern, and just sqeezing through against Milan and PSG, surely it is now the time for Barca to reform this summer.

Key Points.

1). Stop focusing play around Messi all the time, its become boring, stale and very predictable...easy for teams to deal with

2). Unless you have other players that will/can step up when Messi is being marked out of the game, clearly they dont...Alexi and Pedro just continue to run like headless chickens

3) For the love of god buy a couple mid-field enforcers...These lightweight mids you currently have might run rings around a 16th place team in la liga, but in Europe they simply get trounced and its men vs boys (see bayern 23rd april)

4) Buy some world class center backs, Puyol is old..Pique looks uninterested.

5) It is ok to shoot sometimes outside the box, you wont get a yellow/red card for doing so.

6) Have a plan B...play all the pretty and attractive football as you want, but understand at times you can 'win ugly' its ok to do so, you wont get docked points.

7) its ok to buy a player who is over 5ft5 in height.

Cool Get a new keeper, Valdes is lame and not good enough.

9) Play to the whistle, stop waving your arms and fingers to the ref constantly saying 'offside' you dont dictate the play and game and rules im affraid.

So, some minor tweaks needed methinks

Thumbs up

Agreed with all the points except 3, 7 and 8. There's nothing wrong with Xavi and Iniesta They're the best at keeping possession and they allow Barca to play like they way they do.

In terms of Valdes, he'll be leaving this Summer/next, so they'll be getting a new GK anyway.

---------------------------

My post from another thread:

To begin with Messi didn't drop deep as much as he usually would tonight. So I don't think that was the problem. Bayern were just defensively organised and solid. I'm sure any team would have struggled to break down their defense.

In terms of Barca improving, they definitely need better forwards. Sanchez turned out to be a flop obviously, Pedro's off form and doesn't offer much and Villa's getting older. Tello is still kinda young and I think he should remain a bench player. Barca need to try and get a winger who's good at everything attacking wise. Someone who's quick, good at dribbling, good at finishing, passing etc. Neymar could be that player.

The defense definitely needs to be improved. Bartra isn't good enough, Mascherano's a bench player and Puyol's obviously getting older. So a CB. In terms of fullback, someone tall and defensively solid is needed. Alves and Alba aren't the tallest and both are attacking fullbacks.

Other than that I think Barca are alright. Whenever Barca face a team who are solid and don't allow them to create chances, they need to think of another tactic. Currently they just pass about to no avail.

Yohan maybe you should actually watch games. Messi at some points was deeper than Busquets. I'm sorry but I can't take you seriously. Did you even watch the game? Messi had to drop deep and shift into the flanks to try and find spaces between the lines. Maybe its a good idea to look at other peoples tactical analysis because i cannot understand you. Surely you are trolling. I'm not even being mean it's an honest question.

Messi's heat map and touches. How is that not dropping deep considering he plays through the middle?

As far as I can remember, he didn't constantly drop deep. By deep I mean constantly drop deep to the halfway line. The majority of the yellow circles are in the opposition half.

But if deep means anywhere that isn't the CF position, then yeh, I agree he did drop deep.

Dropping to the halfway line? WTF? Most of his touches are near the halfway line anyway rofl

Also why would dropping to the halfway line be a good thing anyway? If anything it usually makes it easier for the other team to defend when Messi does that.

Did MT actually watch the match? Messi was always dropping deep and sometimes staying deep too. In fact, there were intervals in the 2nd half where Xavi was playing in the final third and Messi was the central mid.

It was bloody surreal and I'm sure Pep cried a little inside.

To be fair MT, every time I seen Messi he was he was in the middle of the pitch. If Gomez is snapping at your heels you know you're too deep ffs Laughing

If anyting, Messi was much deeper than he would want to be.

Don't get the plan b requests. What do you want Barca to do, exactly? Sit back, defend deep, and play on the counter? We can do none of those things. If we defend deep we will get slaughtered because our defense is sub par, if we try to play on the counter we will get slaughtered because our midfield is incapable of playing like that, numerous times yesterday we had good opportunities to break on the counter but the midfield slowed down the tempo. They just can't play like that.

Our plan b should be to play plan a to perfection. We didn't fail because plan a is not good enough but because of poor execution.

For some reason I just thought Messi didn't come deep as much as he did vs AC Milan. Against AC Milan he was constantly deep (in front of their midfield and defense) and wasn't getting anywhere. Compare it to Bayern and he was in forward positions more often. Looks like it was just a misconception.

messi being deep or not, he was subdued....
i understand his point though, he is saying he wants Messi to be more direct assisting plays and goals, regardless where he plays,

but also, Barcelona need another "Messi" type player, in the meaning of a player who can basically play in the forward line and drop deep to assist. Fabregas was the answer but apparently he didnt hve a good year

A good example is Hernanes, i think he would fit in Barcelona.

Exactly, I understand the Barca players are tailor made to play the way they do and can't really adapt.

They have had resounding success with plan 'A' but the fact is plan 'A' won't always work and the more they use it, the more other teams will adapt.

If you don't have the players to adapt then you're tactically inflexible and you can either sign players who are more comfortable with a more direct plan 'B' or just hope that on the night your original plan is good enough.
