Mikel counts as homegrown now, he'll be there forever

I'm not so sure he does, actually.

Been reading up on it and apparently British citizenship doesn't count towards homegrown status.

He's been playing well for the past 2 and half months or so, he was a benchwarmer for the first half of the season. Good to see that consistent game time pay off. Now renew his loan for us please.

Wouldn't be the end of the world if he gets more gametime next season.

I struggle to see how he'll find a starting spot at Chelsea tbh. Hopefully he asks for a buyout clause to be included, since we can offer him a starting spot.

He will probably be loaned next season, he could have a future here if he works hard.

Marco Van Ginkel told Chelsea TV full expects to be with us next season.

I'd love to see it because I remain a fan of his, however, he'll have to improve a touch before he returns, though.

So WAGNH have been running articles on all of our player's seasons (They are all well worth the read).

Today it was Marco's turn:
http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2016/5/26/11777368/keep-sell-loan-marco-van-ginkels-2015-16-season-review

I urge everyone to have a read, but the interesting thing here is the author's and community's opinion to keep him around next season.

He could certainly play a helpful role with us as he looks to have gotten back to his best form recently.

Our midfield could use help, and if we're planning on playing the 4-3-3, he is very much suited to that formation. He'd also be very inexpensive (obviously) and is a Conte type player, so if we sold Oscar (I think we should), I'd like to see MvG take his spot.

Midfield depth could look something like this:
DMs: Matic/DM*, Ake, Loftus-Cheek
CMs: Fabregas New CM**, Van Ginkel, Loftus-Cheek, Matic

*Danilo Pereira or Luiz Gustavo
**Nainggolan, Joao Mario or Asamoah

Thoughts?

No excuse for him not staying this season, if Chelsea try to loan him again he should just leave

Agreed.

He and Oscar should go against each other, and whoever is better at being Fabregas's understudy should stay, the other should be sold.

Absolutely. I totally forgot about MvG after his meh loan at Milan but he's a fine candidate to become an important asset considering how much we need a player of his quality and dynamism. Provided that he stays injury free and gets proper chances of course.

Well, he's never had injury worries, except his ACL, which he has now recovered from.

MvG has a knee injury and will not go on loan while he recovers, so he'll be with the squad until Jan at least.
