Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Bale played as a forward last year. Not a winger.

Might as well compare Ribery and Mario Mand. And in conclusion Mario > Ribery no?

Let me guess, Bale is now top 5 in the world if not top 3

He played in the middle, but had a free role to roam to the wings. That would make him a false 9/support striker etc, which is still in the forward category.

Ribery starts out wide, whereas Bale starts in the middle with the team built around him.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
To be honest, we've yet to see any comments or quotes from Bale's camp one way or the other (as far as I'm aware) so every claim that he's attempting to force a move is coming from second-hand sources. Of course, if he wished he could certainly end all of this with a single statement to the press and you can read a lot into his silence if you want. But take everything that's coming out in the press with a grain of salt unless it's got some actual quotes in it about his desires or feelings.

There's a lot of factors involved though. Like injuries, whether they'll flop etc etc. Which means 2 years isn't much of a difference. Definitely not a difference for Bale to cost more than Suarez.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
He's not a false 9, he wasn't a support striker either. Not for a vast majority of games.

Ouch now Madrid fans trying to convince themselves Bale is as good (if not better) than Suarez
I wonder when the "Bale vs Messi" comparisons will start........

Is there like a stat/heatmap thing etc showing which position Bale started and scored the majority of his goals?

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
For people saying Bale wasn't a ST and got those numbers, have to remember Suarez played as a SS to Sturridge for half of the season.
The way I see it it's just people clutching at straws. Both Bale and Suarez were focal points in their teams respective attacks. That's like saying Ronaldo is not a forward, he's a winger.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Considering he scored a large number of long shots the heat map won't really help you there either
Compared to L.S, the heat map colour in the box would be a much lighter shade.
Face it, you're comparing Goals + Assists with players who operate in different areas of the pitch. Whilst i'm not saying one's better than the other, using goals and assists when one player isn't even a striker is just bias.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
I know this discussion isn't for this thread, but Ronaldo is a winger because he starts on the wing and goes central. However if there was a defense, midfield and forward category, he'd be in the forward in.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Bale could have easily dropped deep/to the wings for a long shot, which is what false 9's/SS's can do.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Spurs at no point in their season played with a false 9 or a SS. That's not how AVB plays, never has, don't think he ever will.
From August till december, Bale started on the left. This was when Sandro was fit and they have their proper midfield. Bale didn't always stick on the left since he preferred to roam around and come through the middle with Dembele going towards the left.
After Sandro got injured along with Adebayor going shit and Defoe being injured too. AVB moved Bale in the middle and started Holtby/other scrubs on the left. It wasn't a SS role and not False 9 since Ade ALWAYS started ahead of him. Bale had a free role in the middle.

ESPN has a comprehensive statistical and tactical analysis that will be helpful. Pretty much shows you that Bale played as a SS.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Somebody needs to phone AVB then and tell him the players are purposely playing out of shape then because any line up I seen except for maybe twice had Bale on the left or Right.
When did Spurs even use a false 9? This is seriously new to me.
