Well, Newcastle got Remy on loan and kept hold of Cabaye and Ben Arfa. So it wasn't a catastrophic window for them, although still pretty bad.
Sunderland bought this young Mavrias dude, don't know who is the other.Lex wrote:I'd also love to know what two Greek players were bought lol

Re: EPL Transfer Stats - Poor Newcastle
Why so fans always think every window is a failure if money isn't spent? Isn't it better to spend it on the right players rather than going after second choice talent?
The obsession with spending in the PL is why players aren't coming through academies. Ironically, it's Arsenal who are producing the best English talent at the moment yet suffer the most backlash from the media, the common fan and even their own.
Then after every bad England result wankers will begin to complain/moan about the state of English football and bore the rest of us who have a clue to death.

Re: EPL Transfer Stats - Poor Newcastle
Baffles me that 28 year olds get the highest transfer fees on average
Is there an outlier thats skewing that average?
For most players, price should peak at 25/26 IMO, after that it should be a slow decline

Who are Liverpool producing? Sterling who won't get a game this season or Jay Spearing?

Re: EPL Transfer Stats - Poor Newcastle
When did I say that?
Of the English youngsters Arsenal have, only Wilshere and Gibbs have properly emerged from the academy. Walcott and Chamberlain were bought for some good money.
Yanited have been constantly producing talents like Welbeck and Cleverley. Not to mention they have other Britishers like Evans, Fletcher as well. Better than Arsenal.
A few years back we had one of the most pathetic academies but now we've improved immensely, credits to Rafa. There's Gerrard, Sterling, Ibe, Kelly, Wisdom who have emerged from our academy that are part of our first team. In addition to them, there's Coady, Sinclair, Morgan and McLaughlin (though Northern Irish) who are interesting prospects as well. Flanagan, Morgan most likely won't make the cut and perhaps even Wisdom as well with the influx of new CBs but Sterling, Ibe, Kelly are here to stay.
Anyways, Sterling has had 2 appearances this season already. He's just 18.. you expect him to start every game?

Re: EPL Transfer Stats - Poor Newcastle
First of all, Jordon Ibe has made one premier league appearance since December 2011, so don't know why he's being mentioned here as part of Liverpool's fledgling core of English players. Secondly, he was bought from Wycombe Wonderers, so he's not even a product of 'Pool's academy
Don't know why you're bringing Irish and Scottish players into a debate about English players, but whatever..........ExtremistEnigma wrote:Not to mention they have other Britishers like Evans, Fletcher as well

From the top of my head, Fernandino and Soldado most likely.Swanhends wrote:Baffles me that 28 year olds get the highest transfer fees on average

Re: EPL Transfer Stats - Poor Newcastle
Ibe is one of our highly rated prospects, he was rated higher than Sterling before the latter got his break and still is. He's much more technically gifted than Sterling and his decision making in final third is better as well. It's just a matter of time when he breaks out.Lex wrote:First of all, Jordon Ibe has made one premier league appearance since December 2011, so don't know why he's being mentioned here as part of Liverpool's fledgling core of English players. If we go by your logic, then Wilshere was brought in from Luton Town and Gibbs from Wimbledon. Majority of the academy players these days are snatched from lower clubs or the other.
Because they are home-grown players?Lex wrote:Don't know why you're bringing Irish and Scottish players into a debate about English players, but whatever....

Disagree.... it was more than catastrophic.Art Morte wrote:Well, Newcastle got Remy on loan and kept hold of Cabaye and Ben Arfa. So it wasn't a catastrophic window for them, although still pretty bad.
But i'm used to this by now, Ashley won't spend anything from his own wallet or otherwise unless his investment is under threat.... i.e. relegation.
I know exactly why as well, but none the less it never gets any less embarassing.

Re: EPL Transfer Stats - Poor Newcastle
You could have done with another CF and a defender, but just not getting them doesn't make the window catastrophic (or worse). You also didn't lose any players you wanted to keep. The squad as it is should have enough class for a mid-table finish, whether Pardew can get the best out if it is another matter.

Heres where i'm going to disagree again lol.
We don't need a defender personally, what we need is width and creativity.

Re: EPL Transfer Stats - Poor Newcastle
Well, isn't Remy going to be playing as a winger or wide forward or whatever, with Cisse remaining the center-forward? And Gouffran, too? I'm sure Marveaux and Obertan leave something to be desired for, but they're not hopeless.
Sissoko, Cabaye and Ben Arfa should be able to create something in midfield.
I thought you could do with full-back cover, because after Santon and Debuchy your options don't look great and the same goes for center-forward, but I don't believe an upgrade on your wide options should have been first priority.
