Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Isaac Hayden is out too. Not that he's been used that much.
But with Wilshere supposedly "ill" and Diaby still a fitness issue and Giroud to return to training shortly after the international break, it's settling down a bit.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Wilshere should be back against Sunderland but now we've lost Arteta. One in, one out, as always..
Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Arteta out for Swansea, but should be back after the international break. Has a grade one hamstring strain.
Giroud back in first team training next week.
Wilshere fine for Sunday.
Koscielny has a "little chance" to be back after the break.
Opsina, Debuchy and Ozil progressing well, but won't be for a little while yet.

Injury list:
Giroud
Arteta
Ozil
Debuchy
Ospina
Koscielny
6 injuries is (sadly) probably a decently-low number for us.

Just after 3 days of Arsene saying that...
Koscielny is out for a month more. It's just me guess but I think he has had an Achilles operation which they are trying to keep it under the radar. I don't believe we will see him before New year but let's hope i am wrong.

Shame about Koscielny, he has been greatly missed. Giroud recovering from a broken foot like a boss tho

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Obvious, but we badly need players back asap. Arteta and Giroud hopefully in our squad v Man Utd.

If Giroud was just capable of delivering on the pitch it would be good. He will just come in and break what little chemistry has been created while the rest of the team tries to accommodate his lack of pace and movement.

Abou Diaby believed to have torn his hamstring, out for three months.
His contract is up this season, unfortunately, he's done.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Ozil has said he'll be out for another seven weeks.
EDIT: Just to clarify, that's not a set-back. Apparently the given timeframe for his injury was 12 weeks - he's done five, so seven to go.

This bothers me a lot.
How he has kept a contact for so long is terrible management. How much does he make a week?
He's giving the team nothing......
It just bothers me.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Keeping Diaby has been a gamble on the hope that he would eventually come through fit ... he has--well, at this point, had--the potential to be a truly excellent player. Everyone who's worked with him seems to acknowledge this. I think Sagna once said something to the effect that if it weren't for injuries Diaby could be the best French player of his generation. I really feel for the guy and on principle, if not in terms of substantial wages, I still admire the club for trying to keep the faith in him as long as they have.
Sadly the gamble has not paid off. And he's said to be on £60k/wk, which is certainly a lot for a guy who plays four matches and then misses eight months, routinely. But nobody envisioned years ago that he would be so injury-prone.
A nightmare domino effect from the 2006 leg-breaking tackle.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
He also deserves all the credit for his mental strength to keep working towards a recovery in the hope of playing one day. It would have been easier to give up and walk away. That is why I admire him. That is why I have never included him in the list of our deadwood. Putting mind over heart, you would call him that - but, for his character and humility and persistence, he deserves a lot better than what life has dished him.

He gets around 65k a week, Wenger extended his contract while he was injured. I feel bad for him tbh, could have been one of the best players but injuries held him back.

@JamesOlley: Checked with #afc & they say rumours of Diaby suffering a fresh injury setback are "completely false". Recovery still progressing (slowly).

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
first of all, I don't think it's wrong for a club to keep a player around while he's injured, on the contrary. Hoeness always liked to extend contracts of players who suffered severe injuries as a sign of support (Badstuber for example).
Also about the wages, I'm not an expert but I'd guess there are clauses etc that regulate players wages during prolonged injuries.
For example I've heard that usually after a certain period the wages are suspended and a kind of injury salary payed by the players' union kicks in. Not sure how this is in individual cases/contracts or other leagues than the Bundesliga.
Secondly, I was just viewing Diaby's injury history on transfermarkt, and it is really remarkable.
Don't know how exactly they work on the entries as for media reports and/or club statements, but it suggests that somethings really, really off there, either with the medical department or, rather more likely, the way Arsenal give out information.
Because apart from a ankle surgery and the knee ligament tear last year there's no 'serious' injuries in that list - yet he practically never played, less than 1000 minutes in the last 3 years. (the list only goes back to 07/08)
For example in fall/winter 2012 transfermarkt show him out for 97 days due to a thigh strain... lol wtf 3 months?! with a strain?
Winter 11/12 the same, almost a 100 days due to "muscular problems". What are fans being told? I don't get it.
Then, a cruciate ligament is usually a good half year, for Diaby it's been more than a year (from March 2013 to April 2014) according to the site, but... since then? what happened in the half year since then?
Now it's not unusual that injuries/recoveries can take longer etc, but I don't get why this isn't made more openly. This guy never is fit even when he is not injured officially, both he and the fans are obviously in some kind of limbo all the time.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
Diaby is probably the most unlucky footballer i have ever seen, everytime he manages to stay fit and hit a bit of form he gets injured. Arsene thought he'd get over his injuries like Rosicky and Van Persie but it hasn't worked out. I hope the guy manages to stay fit one day and find himself a club in France because he is a good player and good professional. You can't let all that talent go to waste.

Giroud and Arteta are in full training and available vs Man United. Olly is a month ahead of schedule.
Debuchy and Koscielny are doing 'field working' which means they're three weeks away from full training.
Özil won't be back for the next five weeks, until January at least.

Re: The Arsenal Injury Thread
on Giroud and Arteta…
Giroud and Arteta are both available. It's just a question of how ready they are. But they are available.
on Giroud…
He is three or four weeks ahead of schedule. Originally we planned to have him back for competition at the beginning of next year. So he's one month ahead.
on relying on Welbeck while Giroud was out…
Yes, and on Sanchez as well. But we have Giroud back, we have Walcott back. Slowly they will integrate into the team again and give us different options.
on Koscielny and Debuchy…
Koscielny and Debuchy are doing well, they are out on the field [working] again. We have to see now. Usually field work is three weeks away from full group training. Then there is fitness. It looks straightforward for Debuchy. It's not inflammation, it's just repairing surgery. For Koscielny, it depends how well he responds to training. At the moment he looks good.
on Ozil…
Ozil is doing well but he will not be ready before the start of 2015.
