Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
My 2 cents:
Safe to say that even if it was not a penalty it was still a Demichellis red because of a tackle on the last man that made no contact with the ball whatsoever. It was also a very tricky call so I don't think the ref can be accused of incompetence.
Barca were not awarded a handball inside the box and an goal that was wrongfully called onside. Clearly whatever impact was gained from the wrongfully called penalty was balanced out by these wrong calls.

Oliver Kay @OliverKayTimes
Pellegrini: "Not a good decision to put a referee from Sweden in charge of this match"
Pellegrini: Football is more important in Europe than in Sweden. This ref was in the Milan Barca game in the group and he [ruled] against them
Q: Was referee trying to compensate for mistake he made for Milan against Barcelona? Pellegrini: Yes.
He's doing everything to get banned, I see.

Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
Pellegrini says "The referee decided the game .. from the beginning I felt the referee was not impartial to both teams"
"It was not a good idea to put a referee from Sweden in charge of such an important game."
"This referee did Barca v Milan game at group stage & made an important error against Barca. Today he rearranged [put it right]"
Well well well.....
I don't suppose he'll be branded an enemy of football after that, will he?

Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
I can somewhat agree with this. The biggest problem in todays game is trying to make games more even, more interesting, not giving enough importance refereeing correctly. Although he's deluded by magnificently if he thinks ref helped Barca in this match.Blue Barrett wrote:Pellegrini says "The referee decided the game .. from the beginning I felt the referee was not impartial to both teams"

Every problem of today's negative discussions could be eliminated by video refereeing.

Messi is leaning forward with the upper part of his body seemingly offside and the ball hasn't even actually been kicked by iniesta yet. It's tight, but isn't it the rule along the lines that if any part of your body is off its offside?

Barca have lost the right to complain about handball penalties in the CL for all eternity.

Arms dont count. Its tight, but even so I think Kompany should have been closer to the offside line made by everyone (other than him)DuringTheWar wrote:Ganso wrote:Collblanc wrote:Kompany

Messi's shoulder is on level with Kompany's leg. I love this Maradona fanboy, 4 posts in row trying to discredit Messi. How can people like this be really Maradona fans? They are discrace of a fan.

Don't see what Pelle is complaining about. The way I see it there were three high profile calls (handball, penalty, offside). 2 of them went City's way and 1 went Barca's way.

When? I remember this exact situation that snowballed into much bigger, an exact example why refereeing should ignore making games artificially evenHapless_Hans wrote:BarrileteCosmico wrote:My 2 cents:

Barca has the greatest right to complain of handballs.

Calm down, overreaction much? How exactly did I just discredit messi? Are you really that touchy? That someone can't even question a referee call without "discrediting" messi. Why are you even trying to make this about messi and maradona? How obsessed are you man? You seem to be slipping lately, attacking everyone, your seeing insults towards messi where they don't even exist.

I don't see that and frankly even if he is offside we'd be talking centimetres which won't be clear from that image anyway.DuringTheWar wrote:Messi is leaning forward with the upper part of his body seemingly offside and the ball hasn't even actually been kicked by iniesta yet. Also hands don't count.

No, I wasn't saying two wrongs make a right, or that City got it worse today, or anything. I agree with your judgement, all I was saying is you've lost the right to complain about handball decisions.

The angle the picture is taken from is deceiving... actually watch footage of the incident its not even close to being offside.

Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
Great. Looks like the first contact is made outside the box but it is extended up to a metre inside. For me 70% it isn't a penalty. Especially given that a red was shown as well.
