Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
Great. Looks like the first contact is made outside the box but it is extended up to a metre inside. For me 70% it isn't a penalty. Especially given that a red was shown as well.
Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
People need to shut the hell up about the ref. I didn't agree with every call, but the big calls even out. It should have been a red- that's right. I don't think it was a penalty personally, so perhaps you can say that was wrong. However, we then had an onside goal incorrectly ruled offside, so that evens out the penalty.
As for whatever handling call, I don't remember it. Unless we're talking about the one that hit Clichy with his arms tucked neatly next to his body? Never a penalty.
Overall, you're clutching at straws if you think the referee played any real major role in the way the game went. It evened out.
As for the game, I personally didn't find it very boring like others may have, but I'm a Barca fan. I thought we were pretty good, but not at our best and perhaps not even "great". I thought most of our players played well without being outstanding. Dani Alves aside- as he was fantastic all game long, MotM.
City came into the game scared and other than the 10-20 minute period, showed nothing really that has made them a scary team this year. Most of the time they didn't win the ball high up when they pressed, and the rest of the time they sat back and defended deep with two LB's on the left flank. Clearly Pellegrini was scared of Barca and much as I like him, he should be written a prescription for a pair of testicles. Didn't see any good counterattacking, but it was pretty well cut out by Barca.
But we won
So happy right now
La Liga with a victory today

The penalty was legit. Some folks are not familiar with the rules.
If the obstruction begins outside but continues into the penalty area, it's a penalty. Simple really.
City. The team that is trashing everything and everyone in Mule League.
DAT clean sheet.

So Messi was being "held" by Demi's feet?

No, but Demichelis was impeding Messi's progress all the same.BarrileteCosmico wrote:So Messi was being "held" by Demi's feet?

I did not know Pelle can be such a sore loser. I really respected this guy, but after reading those quotes (if true), I don't respect him that much. I mean I agree the penalty was probably a wrong call, but there were similarly damaging calls against Barca so the refereeing in my eyes was balanced.
Pelle made a mistake for not attacking and payed the price. He payed too much respect to Barca and now wants to hide his mistakes.

They are coming 3rd in the league and couldn't even score against Norwich :lol:Look lost in attack without Aguero.
Have barca always been this tentative to shoot? More so in the first half but there were a couple of chances that came to Iniesta and Fabregas and they either passed it or let the moment pass by without really going for it/

Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
I like to see Barca lose just as much as the next guy, but anyone who thinks the ref won this game for Barca is talking out of their ass, and at the end of the day id much rather City stay in Europe as long as possible, them going out early makes the league much more difficult for Chelsea who should be getting at least to the next round of the CL.
In regard to the penalty situation, the onside/offside with Messi and Kompany is too close to call with still images, so the linesman can hardly be held at fault for making the wrong call, thats of course if it was the wrong call. In regard to the resulting foul, its a clear as day red and personally i dont mind seeing it given as a penalty as the foul starts outside the box but it finishes insides the box, and ultimately it corrects the injustice of Barcas goal being incorrectly called offside earlier.
Its also a really poor performance from Pelle too, for someone who was always described as one of the more respectful and dignified managers hes talking straight out of his ass saying that the ref went there with the intention of balancing out a wrong call he made in the Barca v Milan game.
The worst of it from him though is saying that the ref was not competent enough to ref the game because hes Swedish and they dont care about football as much Europeans. By that same token is he, as a South American, unfit to manage a European side because SA has a different football culture to Europe? Or maybe is he unfit to ever work again as an engineer because he can’t even add up goal difference properly?
Ultimately though i think Pelles stupid comments in the press are just a means of taking the spot light away from his team’s performance and lack of balls throughout the game (which is his fault really) just like Mou did after Chelsea drew with West Ham not long ago.

Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
You make it sound like Pelle parked the bus and that was not at all what happened. His tactics were spot on for the match and until the red City had generated more chances than Barca. He's at fault for bringing Demichelis to the club but not for setting up the game poorly.eelir wrote:I did not know Pelle can be such a sore loser. There is a reason Bayern gave him the boot despite his good years of service. He started to decline in his late 20s, rapidly.
It's a joke that he starts for a club with CL winning aspirations.

In fairness he's 3rd choice behind Nastasic who was declared not fit to play. It's not like he is a starter for them.

Pique's goal should of stood. Cesc was onside, not off.
Penalty was 50/50, stupid tackle anyway.
This is the first time Barcelona has won an away game in England in the last 10 years iirc.

Didn't watch the game, but Barcelona had 780 passes with a 92% completion rate.

A tie that failed to live upto its expectation. The borefest that was until the red card says it all...did both team create a single chance when it was 11 vs 11 ?
Pointless possession from Barcelona and City with worst pressing game of a top team..

Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
Despite having an offside decision going against Barcelona's favor, Manuel Pellegrini accused the referee of favoring Barcelona in last night's game.
"Before the penalty it was a foul on Navas when he [Eriksson] was three metres from the play so he could see it. From the beginning I felt the referee was not impartial to both teams. So he decided the game. And after it was not a penalty, it was outside the box.
"The contact was outside the box, that was the contact. You cannot continue the foul, the first foul was outside the box. But the important mistake is the foul against Navas, the second mistake was the penalty. But it was from the beginning [Eriksson's impartiality].
"Barcelona did not have chances before the goal. It was a pity because that important action decided the game. Playing 40 minutes with one player less is difficult against Barcelona but we played well with one player less and in the last minute they scored the second goal."

Re: Man City 0-2 Barcelona
He is right, Barca didnt create anything until the red card , it was pure anti football to me...just keep possession and run the clock..City being such a clueless side at pressing helped it as well.
