Premier league is the finest in Europe, But the best team in England barely makes it in the top 5 of Europe. That's about it.

Now it depends how one interprets 'finest'.

It is indeed hilarious how the English Premier League is consistently self-proclaimed the best yet has little ground beneath to support that argument. It's seed of thought has been planted by a very savvy import of marketing philosophy and media support targeting third world countries to reinforce the notion of its 'superiority'. It is a great league yet does not have substantial claim of being the best especially given what it actually fails it whether its dire quality of football or complete lack of atmospheres etc.

Its utter nonsense.

City and Arsenal played with 10 men, Arsenal were missing 2 of our best players. City were missing Aguero, both City and Arsenal have beaten Bayern away from home.

We will see next game how both teams responds and hope the refs dont kill the game.

It's not just about results though. Just because Olympiacos beat Man Utd, the Greek league is suddenly better? Overall when you look at every factor, like the quality of teams, the competitiveness etc, the PL is the best league in the World.

PL has more quality top teams than any other league. For the majority of the last decade La Liga's only been about Real Madrid/Barca. This year Atletico are giving it a go and Villarreal did in 08. But overall they just aren't big clubs like the Chelsea's, Man Utd's etc.

Look at the top 3 of La Liga. You speak of competitiveness, look at the points difference between them. You speak of quality and tactics then measure the difference between La Liga quality of top 3 and EPL?

Lower than that? Then you might want to watch teams outside Real Madrid in the La Liga a wee bit more.

again, whose fault is that? they weren't playing with 10 men because some magical entity came down from heavens and decided that arsenal and city will have a man down, they had to play with 10 men because their better opponents forced them to make mistakes... i can't believe people are using "but we got a guy sent off, that doesn't count" as an argument

and yeah, both man city and arsenal beat bayern away, what you fail to mention is that it was in completely irrelevant games where bayern switched off because they knew they were through to the next round

Quality as in better players, more money, better reputation, more resources and overall a bigger club.

Also it's just the top 3, it's the entire league. There's just more top teams in the PL compared to La Liga. Real Madrid/Barca are better than any PL team, but this more about overall. Also more about the last decade or so, just to show consistency, not just this season.

The likes of Valencia/Villarreal were never as good as Chelsea/Man Utd/Arsenal/Liverpool/Man City. Sure they had good form for a while, but those PL clubs are bigger.

The Premier League will always be there and around the top leagues, simply due to the fact the amount of money pumped into it. No other league can even near compete with them so they are always to attract top players.

But the EPL in my eyes is now a totally plastic league that is a prime example of everything wrong with the game.

Majority of match going fans in the league and the 'sit & watch' brigade which creates zero atmosphere in most stadia.

Not to mention the prices that teams in England charge for tickets to pay bang average players like Wayne Rooney staggering amounts of money.

The league may keep going strong purely because of the money it has but the soul was sucked from it long, long ago.

I personally never saw the losses to Bayern and Barcelona (with respect to Arsenal and City) as an indication to the demise of the EPL (or whatever Keane is talking about) since it's clear (particularly in Arsenal's case) that the ten men did affect them adversely. What I'm wondering is why is it being talked about it so much?!

Maybe Keane made this statement not only because of this season, but also last season when there were 0 EPL teams in the last 8 and the season before only one EPL teams in the last 8.

Some EPL fans act as if 3 of their teams still make the semis of the CL. Those days are long over.
