stupid thing of me to say actually. "Being linked" to someone in silly season means nothing, pretty sure if we know Illaramendi is available Wenger knew it way earlier than us.

Besides, a bit harsh, but we already have an ex-Madrid midfielder who's yet to show us his best.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Illarra could be a superior Arteta which is what we really need. But Madrid would want to make up that 36m and won't sell him for less than 20.
I'd still gamble on him though.
Maybe Arsene wants to wait till Summer.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Illarra would satisfy nobody's calls for one of those bruiser DMs, but we'll probably never get one of those anyway. My own answer to whether or not I'd like him would depend on too many other variables. (FFS, what's wrong with me, can't even answer a hypothetical question? But there you go.)
I will say, I've long felt a little bad about the guy's big move to Madrid that seemed to lead to nowhere. It's just a hunch but I have a feeling that he'll be one of those players who just gradually turns into an important cog in a CL/EL team ... just give him time.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Almost as if on cue, Tancredo "Espressino" Palmeri suggests we've made a €5m bid for Kevin Grosskreutz, and we're "tracking" Destro & Illarramendi.

EDIT/UPDATE: Marca says Arsenal actually have suggested a summer move for Illarra, who prefers us to Athletic Bilbao (who have reportedly made a €25m bid for this window).

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We wait till the summer to move Flamini/Diaby on? Would make sense tbf
Wonder if RM would wait and keep him on the wage, just because we have suggested a summer move

Watch him sign for Chelsea in the summer, do a good job there next season and a whole bunch of posts in the Arsenal section moaning about how we missed an opportunity on that one

AW is currently preparing to appear before an FA appeals committee to argue for a work permit for Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
How does this work?
Do we go to the appeals only after we buy or can we clarify beforehand? Considering the latter would be a more logical and efficient solution for the clubs but cause an overload of requests at the appeals, I would not expect that to be the modus operandi
Oh did any of you lad(ie)s read the Ramos stuff? Guy apparently 'angrily rejected' a new contract over wage demands and could be available this window.
Hypothetically, would you take him over Gabriella?

Arsenal are just hours away from completing the signing of Gabriel Paulista with Joel Campbell possibly joining Villarreal on loan (Marca)

Don't rate Ramos all that highly tbh.
Some fellow called Xavi Sidro, who seemingly works for Cadena Ser is his twitter is anything to go by, has tweeted: Attention fans of Arsenal.Marcelino believes that the future of Gabriel is very close to Arsenal. The club looks for another central defender

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I think Wenger speaking so openly about it and getting to the point of arguing against the work permit system that would be the only obstacle in getting him here if a fee had already been agreed is an indicator of how advanced this transfer is.
As gunnerblog said "If Wenger says a transfer is 50/50, it's safe to assume it's 90/10"

I just hope we dont take too long and United come in and hijack our deal.
Involving Joel is a key for us I guess.

Exciting times... but will he accept being 3rd choice considering he's been an ever-present cog in Villareal's impressive defence this season though ?

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Knowing our injury history, he wouldn't have a problem I'm sure his agent would have filled him in about our WC medical facilities
I don't know about Joel tbh.. Would rather keep him, but kid needs to play more no doubt..

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Gabriel is 24, our two first choice CB's are in their primes, but stepping into the far end of those primes. Kos, the one he's supposed to be more similar to, playing style wise, has a persistent injury problem (as Sri points out). He's moving to a CL club. He'll be fine as a rotation guy until & unless he proves himself a starter.
Plus didn't Gabriel only get into the Villarreal team because of injury to Musacchio? Perhaps I'm wrong there.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Prefer Pepe to Ramos as stated before
=========
not even sure Joel would play regularly at Villarreal!
=========
as for Gabriel reminder of the season gonna be adaptation period for him
important Per/Kos stay fit so not much pressure on him
it seems he can play both sides,so wouldn't be A problem pairing him with either of Per/Kos at LCB/RCB
Or even occasionally using him at Full back

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
With the injury problems we've had and form niggles with Per there would have been plenty of playing time for Gabriel had we signed him in the summer and that'll be the case, as Chum pointed out, as Per and Kos get older.
Was hoping for someone around his age, old enough that he has some experience under his belt and young enough that he can develop and step in for Kos/Per as they age (thinking far ahead in this case).
But all this can be summed up by the fact that Nacho Monreal has been deployed at CB this season. Nuff said.
re Campbell, if he doesn't play on Sunday then I don't see him in an Arsenal shirt much longer, even if it's only because he's being loaned out. And if that's the case, I still don't see how he could have a future here. Podolski and Sanogo being loaned out was supposed to get him more time in the first team. Hasn't been the case so far.
