Re: US Presidential Race
I think the Supreme Court might've legalized gay marriage anyway because it's pretty obviously unconstitutional to deny rights to small segments of society. Had the Republicans been in power at the time, they would've suffered a lot from being directly contradicted by the Supreme Court.
Not sure it would've happened, but if it had, the Republicans would've taken years to recover from that.

Re: US Presidential Race
OK, sure. Attitudes change, and in this case they changed quite drastically and very fast. But if the man did not even have the courage to say he was in favor of gay marriage when he was trying to get the job, he shouldn't be credited for it happening through the judicial system. His main contribution was not instructing Eric Holder to stand in the way of states legalizing marriage and having the IRS recognize gay marriages for federal tax purposes (or did this also happen through the juidicial system? I remember there was an important court case about it).RedOranje wrote:Reacting to shifts and adapting to changing demands is part of the job. By that logic Nixon shouldn't be given credit for opening up China or, as an extreme example, Lincoln for his handling of the Civil War and slavery.

When and why did Obama stop thinking marriage wasn't civil a right?

You can thank texas and the right wing racist nuts that hate everyone who resembles a hispanic person here. Even though Trump himself employs lots of illegals

Re: US Presidential Race
Trump is leading the poll because he doesn't need to split the racist vote, because he's clearly the most racist candidate out there.
On the other hand, all the other candidates have competition on most of their wedge issues, there's more than one libertarian running, there's more than one moderate etc. etc. - once a few of the low hanging fruit drop, Trump will be left in the dust. Don't worry.

Re: US Presidential Race
When Bush (the idiot son of Sr.) tried this anti-hispanic thing... the hispanic population went on strike and didn't work for 2 days. EVERYTHING grinded to a halt in Los Angeles: No construction, no restaurants, no trash collection, supermarkets were understaffed, etc. The basic needs of the city were basically halted.
They should do it again and remind these morons the importance of their presence.
They are hard working and family-oriented to a very large extent.

To be fair, if they continue the trend of voting Democrat the Republicans will have to acknowledge them sooner rather than later or face an extended period of increasing political irrelevance.

Bullshit, look at how many of the candidates refused to condemn Trump's statements about the hispanics and defend them. The candidates might not be racist, but they almost all realize that they need to pander to that audience if they want to win.
Trump is in a really interesting position. By being able to threaten to run as a 3rd party he would basically break the republican presidency chance, it's hard to see them winning even if Trump gets as little as 5% of the vote running independently.

Re: US Presidential Race
Trump's popularity is more about Americans absolutely hating politicians and the Washington establishment.... so Trump gets those people and there are a lot of them. He's not a politician regardless of how idiotic he is.
AND Obama is going after yet another massive project: Global Climate. Dude is making it into my top 5 US presidents of all time if he gets this done.

There are again, people in texas who will deny climate change and the like. Apparently global warming doesn't exist here and planned parenthood will be eternally illegal

According to the 2010 Census the average household size in Texas was 2.75 people, which is notably higher than the national average of 2.58.

Because he attracts A LOT of republicans.
Seen far too many comments on the internet fully backing him up.

Believe me, once a few candidates drop out, the majority of votes will congeal around the likes of Jeb Bush, not Trump.

As an outsider, the only candidate I have liked reading about is Bernie Sanders. But i've been told he has no chance.
Think Hillary will win it in the end

Biden might be a not-too-shitty choice as well. Doubt he'd win, but I think he'd be aaaa very reasonable president.

Literally impossible given the constitutional amendment passed (as a direct result of FDR, actually).gb wrote:I wish Obama would just FDR this presidential race. I can't stand to see any of these buffoons(Rep. and Dem.) in office.

Re: US Presidential Race
Read that Carly Fiorina did well in the GOP debate on fox.
googled her speech and could only watch it for 2 minutes before closing the tab
"I will fully back my good friend Netanyahu" followed by "I will do my best to cripple Iran's economy" followed by shitting on Obama and Hillary
I suddenly don't dislike David Cameron so much.

She looks like Ms. Underwood, has my vote.
All kidding aside I heard her CEO track record is terrible, doubt she would beat Clinton.
