Re: USA gun violence thread
I mean i'm not the most liberal person you'll ever meet but ffs do you honestly trust your average joe to carry a *bleep* portable killing machine? I don't trust half the idiots I see to stop at red lights never mind having emotionally unstable *bleep* *bleep* with access to semi automatic weapons.
As I said now you can't take guns off of people, because the ones who circumvent it are the ones who will end up using them but they shouldn't be in this situation in the first place.
And I know about fighting tyrannical governments and blah blah blah but people need to wake up. When a government wants to control you they don't go on CNN and say "We're instilling a dictatorship try and stop us hurr durrrrr" they subtly control you through media, through laws and manipulation. No arsehole with a walther ppk is going to change that.

Re: USA gun violence thread
You made my argument for me because I always like using vehicles as an analogy. You don't trust people to stop at red lights, right, and I'm sure lots of people die because people don't stop at red lights, but we're not saying it's sensible to stop people capable of passing a driving test from buying cars.
And, as important as I think it is to have a protection against tyranny (The population of armed and trained American hunters is bigger than any army in the world), I also think people have an innate right to own weapons if they want to. But of course, this is just my toxic masculinity speaking.

Re: USA gun violence thread
I debunked this counter argument ages ago, sure it was on GL too
Vehicles are necessary to function in the modern world. Take away vehicles of any sort and you might as well be living in a collection of villages with a terrible, 19th century economy because trade dies and so do jobs that aren't 1km away from every bodies houses.
What the *bleep* good does it do to my life if Derrick the lad down the street has a collection of guns? Vehicles have about 10,000 positive uses in the 21st century. Civilians with guns do not.
The goal isn't to remove any and all potential hazards to human life, the goal is to not have idiots carrying items designed to kill people. That's their primary function. A lorry however, is not designed to kill people.

Re: USA gun violence thread
More people die each year in car crashes than by gun violence (Stats for the usa)
Cars serve an economic function, guns serve a freedom and self defence function.
"Wah wah how dare you compare big nasty guns with cars wah wah"
Don't insult my intelligence with that childish crap.
Both guns and cars have a purpose and guns have a lower cost when it comes to human casualties.
Substances that serve no admirable function whatsoever (alcohol) also cause death and disease so go ahead and focus your frustration on alcohol instead. Oh and sugar, ban chocolate too. Oh hell just ban people from doing and taking anything unhealthy since you don't care about freedom and you can lower mortality rates drastically. You can have a nice little utopia.
But oh that's right, everyone chooses to make an exception for guns, because for some reason guns occupy a weird place in your political narratives. Or is it because they are so frightening?

We don't need to insult your intelligence. You did that all by yourself.
You're probably the least pleasant user to engage with I've ever come across.

Re: USA gun violence thread
Gonna assume most of that text isn't aimed at me because it's not remotely like me at all but um
Last I checked chocolate and sugar can't be used to kill 15 people in 60 seconds in a crowded space
Alcohol sure causes damage, and you could argue for it to be more regulated but alcohol is a massive part of how people in USA unwind and relax, and taking that away will have other problems. Big problems too. Not that it worked before, unless you want prohibition round 2.
Cars as we've established are needed to be a 21st century country, unless you want to go backwards through time and watch quality of life fall dramatically, they need to stay.
Guns provide nothing positive except self defence. But as we all know self defence problems escalate when everybody else has a gun anyway. If you trust people to have guns, after all that's happened then good for you. Don't compare guns to *bleep* vehicles or sugar
Bad news for lads planning to overthrow the US government, they'd still shut your uncoordinated rebel groups down with superior organisation, equipment, intel and training.
Tbh the way things are you could argue that the government is already controlling you, where are all of these GOAT freedom fighters with their 27 guns. Why are they doing nothing?

Can they not just take in a bag of sugar and kill it with that, heard it's on par with modern day pistols.

Re: USA gun violence thread
Erie, PA – "Facebook Killer" Steve Stephens was spotted just after 11 a.m. this morning by an alert citizen near the intersection of Buffalo Road and Downing Avenue in Erie County, Pennsylvania, which is less than two miles from PSP Troop E headquarters.
PSP troopers immediately began to canvas the area for Stephens and located him in his vehicle a short time later. Troopers in marked patrol units initiated a pursuit that lasted approximately two miles. The troopers attempted a PIT maneuver to disable Stephens’ vehicle, a white Ford Fusion. As the vehicle was spinning out of control from the PIT maneuver, Stephens pulled a pistol and shot himself in the head.
A patrol trooper involved with the pursuit could not stop in time and slid into Stephens’ vehicle causing minor damage. No injuries to law enforcement or members of the public were reported.
I don't think he killed more than the one person thankfully. Just a coward.

I knew he was going to go out like that. Either that or deliberately shooting at the police and running into their return gunfire just so he could die. What a psycho!

50+ ppl dead in another incident huh. RIP.
At least 50 people have been killed and another 200 have been wounded in a mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert.
A gunman, named as 64-year-old local resident Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel towards an open-air music festival.

Re: USA gun violence thread
At least 50. Death toll will get higher.
So tired of this.
We freak out over terrorism, try and ban Muslims essentially when we continue to have terrorism with higher death toll in the form of white Americans.
People will get up in arms about guns again for a bit and then they'll end up doing nothing. Weird timing, was talking to some British people last night who didn't understand our obsession with guns.

Hard for people to stay outraged when you have the most corrupt democratic government in the world. The majority of the house and senate are bought off by the NRA.
Never understood the obsession with weapons myself.

I fully understand your obsession with guns. in fact I would move to America just to have the freedom to own and shoot any gun I liked.CBarca wrote:At least 50. Death toll will get higher.
