I remember when we knocked them out. Vucinic was irresistible, but Madrid had Julio Baptista ....the teams were completely different then.

i think van nistelrooy and robben were injured in either the second or first leg. guti started both and was mr inconsistent (there are two extremes to guti, he either plays world class, and by world class, i mean super super amazing world class or is an absolute idiot; he had an assist in the second leg i believe, but it was a game he chose to be an absolute idiot). raul, even though he was getting a bit of a comeback that year, was far from the same raul of old, he had declined by then. we also had gago and mahmoudu diarra manning the midfield, an ageing salgado, a garbage cannavaro and a garbage heinze.

on paper we looked good, but that was one of the poorest madrid sides in years (even though we won la liga back to back), and that roma side on paper may not have been much, but they were playing some brilliant football under spalletti. in reality, they were better than us- totti was redefining the false 9, mancini was beasting, taddei was in form, with that talent and our shaky back four and midfield, i never considered that loss an upset. hell you couldn't trust us in europe back in those days, even against mid-level sides

This is probably the most balanced draw of round of 16 and it could go either way. Saying otherwise is simply nonsensical.

You are overrating this Roma , they can ' t beat even Bate Borisov and Spezia at home atm.
But basically even if they were in their best,  it would not be the most balanced match of round of 16

Both teams are off form, this match can go either way.

^^ the way some are posting i thought the match was next week , anyway the team will win regardless of the coach, semi's again will decide the season.
