Post by EL Patron Tue Sep 02, 2014 8:12 pm

Does Arsene rate the guy or he is just bluffing Laughing

Reports in Portugal say he was open to selling but we couldn't agree a fee with Benfica. Joel has a year left on his deal, i can't see him getting many games as a starter and i am struggling to see how he fits into our game. At the moment i can't see a future for him, he will probably leave in January which is a shame. Does anyone see a future for Joel here hmm

If he is as good as some of you rate him here, then he'll have his chances, take them and have a future.

He's already ahead of Rosicky (and Podolski) in the pecking order. He has time till January, if he is really on his last year.

I don't rate him as highly as some Arsenal fans but the guy is talented and should be playing week in week out not warming the bench. I don't think he is ahead of Poldi and Rosicky who are far better players. I do think he is better than Sanogo at the moment but Arsene thinks otherwise, also we have signed Wellbeck so that makes him 3rd choice at the moment. Once Giroud is fit, I can't see him making the bench unless we have some crazy injury problems.

Think he is talented enough for Arsenal. I do not think that he is one of Wengers favorites (although more talented) so he will find trouble getting time.

This.

I actually came in here to post Carlos Vela Mark II

Wenger does this with these very talented, clinical, skillful yet slight/slim youngsters.

He doesn't trust them so he wastes their minutes on big lumps (also young) who are apparently more suited the PL yet have woeful finishing

For Vela see Bendtner for Campbell see Sanogo

Needless to say it's obvious what will happen, somewhere down the line Campbell will get fed up ala Vela and leave and Wenger will see how crap Sanogo is ala Bendtner and get rid of him eventually.

Campbell will then flourish elsewhere ala Vela and Sanogo will struggle elsewhere ala Bendtner.....

Yea get that feeling with him as well.

He is quite talented and we have seen that. But he might have to make it elsewhere like Vela. Would love him to succeed at Arsenal though. He also seems more committed than Vela and wants to prove himself unlike the Mexican. Vela wanted to leave as he couldn't handle the physicality and didn't want to improve his game.

Joel on the other hand seems very level headed and eager to learn.

Wenger obviously rates him if he refused every offer from the likes of Benfica, Sporting, Milan etc...  and kept him in the squad.

He's a right winger and has much competition there, his time will come. If he can't take it he'll leave and we'll get someone else who can. We can't babysit him in the first team based on the World Cup, he has to prove himself he is a better right wing choice than Alexis, Walcott, Chamberlain or he'll see bench time.

By the way his contract expires in two years not one, so we can still fork out a good transfer fee for him next year.

I get what you're saying urban but the thing is you cannot prove yourself without playing really.

His hype has been generated by more than just the WC he was very good in Spain the season before last and really flourished last season, especially showing his quality in the CL.

What I cannot understand is not why he's not starting every game I get that, but so far he has played 16 minutes of football Neutral

He's capable of leading the line or playing RW and tbh I don't see why Wenger didn't just let him go on loan and continue to develop because honestly Wenger will not give him sufficient minutes, of that I am 100% sure.

Campbell two years of top football in Spain and Greece along with a CL run and other international appearances.

Sango league 2 and some under 21.

See that is why Sango starts way more qualified.

I still don't get why Campbell is so highly rated here, based on a handful of appearances. Nor do I get the constant comparisons with Sanogo - when both of them have clearly different roles in the team.

Campbell is a younger version of Podolski for me, and I have my doubts about his long term future with us for that same reason. Alexis, with all his experience in the top flight, struggles when he has to lead the line in our system. And yet Campbell is thought to be a silver bullet solution Rolling Eyes

Campbell plays central striker at his NT. He roams around because he has a free role... but that's his spot. I think Wenger is completely wasting him. He plays exactly the same way as Sanchez does.... not the same level yet obviously. But in terms of player profiles, they're the same imo.

Campbell does play Central striker for his NT. With part of the position being with his back to goal holding up the ball. He is not just a Striker that is best at facing the goal and running at people like Alexis. He seems to be more of a combination between Alexis and Giroud.

The reasons for comparisons between him and Sango is do to Wenger. We have seen what Joel was able to do last year in the CL and Greece. We have also seen what he can do with his national team. We have also seen that Sanogo has been limited in quality at his time with Arsenal and do not see that he will play for his NT. Just for some reason Wenger chooses to constantly play Sanogo and not give Joel a decent shot. Either Sanogo is going to have to step it up immensely or Wenger is going to have to give Joel a run and prove to the fans that he can not play.

Joel Campbell Empty Re: Joel Campbell

Post by Sri Wed Sep 03, 2014 7:51 pm

The problem is it takes 1 game for a player to become unassailable or to be termed utter failure with no hope for any improvement - that's the level of patience we have as fans in this day and age.

Much has been said about how much time and effort it takes for foreign players to adapt in England - to lifestyle off the pitch and the pace and intensity of games on the pitch with a few hundred million pairs of eyes watching and judging every action. Remembering and applying these arguments, however, becomes a matter of convenience - just as it is with statistics being used to paint half-truths supporting the school of though a person subscribes to.

Joel has played down the middle earlier in his fledgling career, but not in England and not in the Premier League - arguably the toughest stage. I will not buy into the argument that a blind eye can be turned to all these factors and that he should be thrown into the judgemental fire. If the coach wants to bed him in slowly, after repeatedly saying Joel has the potential and is a part of the squad, then I am willing to wait. If he is still at the fringes at the end of the season despite capitalizing on opportunities presented to him along the way, then I will question that decision.

That brings me to the case of Yaya Sanogo. The consensus is that he is raw despite his potential. I am not of the opinion that he has done enough to be second choice striker at a club of our calibre - it is very much a long term project with him, with some promising signs and a lot of kneejerk judgements on his ability. This is why I am happy that we have a PL experienced young back-up in Welbeck. Either now, or once Giroud is back, I want to see Sanogo go on loan to a midtable PL club or to the championship to get regular game time and gain experience, though with his earlier injuries, I can understand on some level, why the club may not trust some other club to manage him well enough.

I hope both of them have breakout seasons, it will ease our long term replacement strategy in the advanced positions. Maybe then, we will focus more on addressing the holes in the defence. That is a bigger issue than which of Sanogo/Campbell starts up front.

The fact of the matter is that given the amount of game time Wenger has given Sanogo, Campbell should deserve more chances.

This guy could have a very decent career someplace else, so I hope he'll be soon gone from Arsenal since he's rated so lowly there.

I wouldnt say he is better, but very close player. I still would take Welbeck over him due to EPL experience.

I dont know why Wenger would ever start Sanogo over him. rofl

Smh. He is NOT rated lowly. He has been in the PL for THREE games. Wenger has repeatedly said he rates Joel and he is a part of the squad. Rolling Eyes

This is Yaya's second season, although the club spent his first 6 months building him up physically, away from any football action. That's still over a year off the pitch and  6 months around the first team set up that Sanogo has on Joel.

People have their apprehensions about Alexis playing centrally, yet a younger Campbell, on his first few months in England, after 3 PL games and 2 CL qualifiers, is being 'ignored'.

Perspective: Rosicky hasn't seen a minute on the pitch this season. Neither has Podolski. Theo is still not back. There is intense competition for the places up front. The season is a bloody marathon that doesn't end next month. Be patient ffs.

So how many games we need to wait for before saying he's being rated lowly?

By now we know, wenger doesnt fancy him at CF, and with cazorla, ozil, sanchez, ox, walcott, podolski, welbeck ahead of him, its far fetched.

he'll lucky to get as much mins as gnarby did last season.
