I refuse to believe that England have managed to produce actually a worse finisher than Sterling who still makes it to the World Cup.

Then again, I welcome all Rashford bashing, for he is shite.

Does it matter? This is the worst England team that I remember. You can easily swap a lot of players in defence and midfield and it will look equally average.

Walker is going to play RCB, so it's actually four centre backs and four wing-backs.

Chelsea?

rename him to Mason Mourn

Vitesse probably already have his squad number ready tbh

He's already at Vitesse, and bossing the Eredivise. Been out performing Kluivert, despite all the praise that Kluivert is getting.

I would argue that all post 98 England teams are more or less same level.

This looks really poor in comparison

Due to wondering if this really was the worst England squad to be assembled for a WC, did a lil Wiki research because why the f not.
1990:

1998:

2002:

2006:

2010:

2014:

Yeah, this may in fact be England's weakest WC squad for a long time. Didn't even go back to much earlier editions because I feel it'll just make for worse viewing.

It is awful which ever way you look at it.

Kane is pretty much the only "match winner" type of player in this squad.
The three goalkeepers have nine caps between them (this must be a World Cup record, surely?)
The whole midfield has five international goals between them (maybe this one, too?)
Danny Welbeck has the most England goals in the squad with 15.

That said, I hope this England team wins all their matches 1 - 0 and become champions.

So what does everyone think of England in the WC this time? Theyve under performed pretty much in the past countless WCs? Does it look like someone like Kane can lead them to a surprise run with the players good enough or not this time?

Kane is a brilliant striker.
Unfortunately the midfield is still in dire condition, plus the defense doesn't inspire a lot of confidence as well.

It's the worst England team in my lifetime. I think the majority of fans will be happy just to make it out of the groups. I expect nothing more.

It was going to be him, Jordan Henderson or Gary Cahill. Laughing

There's a bit of a leadership vacuum now that old the old generation has retired. Once Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney all packed it in there was no one to turn to.

Team to play Nigeria:

Pickford; Walker, Cahill, Stones; Trippier, Alli, Dier, Lingard, Young; Sterling, Kane

Apart from Henderson (who I believe is still on break after the CL final), that's probably the starting eleven for the first World Cup game.
