As per reports, Mbappe was deadset on going to Real, however, PSG thought that the idea of playing alongside Messi might entice him to stay and renew. Having still not accepted a renewal, i get the feeling that they might be inclined to sell

Apparently Madrid submitted an offer today for 160M, but promptly rejected with PSG saying they will also reject any higher offer.

Sounds like that reported rumor yesterday was BS.

You’re ignoring all the behind the scene work that had been going on including direct talks with Qatar. The plan was this weekend (International break) so that PSG wouldn’t complain it affected their play, however word came out yesterday from RMC that they were willing to deal (and that there already was an offer from EPL, likely Liverpool) and thus the offer was made. Obviously the story from RMC was total BS, or perhaps word from Qatar hasn’t yet reached club management.

Either way, Perez is now positioned with at least 160M in transfer funds and lots of salary capacity to make a run at both Mbappe (free) and Haaland (60M) next summer. Both have already had favourable conversations with club.

PSG doesn't care about money... so that's out of the equation.

You usually don't make an official offer unless there's a deal to be made. Add to that, CR asking for a transfer... so there are some viable options out there.

The other story though is that PSG wants to have a super team this year with Mbappe, hope that he has so much fun that he decides to stay... and Madrid have a poor year so Mbappe feels that he wouldn't have a competitive team even if he joined Madrid.

The later rumor has always been the most likely.

This public offer was actually a very cool thing on behalf of Madrid for Mbappe.

If he left for free in 2022 and no big money offers were publicly made this year... fans in France would have felt that he was always going to screw the club over (which is nonsense btw) and had already set it up to leave for Madrid on a free transfer.

This way, it's clear that PSG could have taken the money if they wanted it.  If PSG keeps Mbappe, it's 100% on them.  There is no conspiracy by Mbappe, Raiola (feel like his name belongs in any transfer conspiracy), Madrid or anyone else...  there can't be any blame.

It's a classy move.

Mbappé will stay. QSG will win nothing of note. And he will leave for free to Madrid next season.

Hope Madrid have a good season, further strengthening Mbappé's desire to move there.

The good thing is with QSG winning nothing and Mbappé leaving, they will be left with a bunch of underachieving has-beens. An undesirable option for Europe's top talents.

He means we can sign Mbappe on a free transfer starting January since players are allowed to negotiate 6 months before it expires.

So we wait less than 5 months to officially lock him down. Fine by me

I just listened to the Leonardo interview. Sure sounds like extreme bitterness. It's obvious he hasn't heard about the direct contact with Qatar! I now see why Flo was saying the club to club relationship had gone sour. It is with Leonardo but not with Qatar.

I expect Flo to now say take the 160M now or get zero next summer. Your choice!
