The Departed (2006)
What a film. What a cast. Everything was just perfect. Like everything. Maybe Scorsese's best?
Man I am feeling so empty inside because you spend the entire film rooting for Di Caprio and that happens...
So many deaths.
Probably the only film I liked Wahlburg in.
9.2/10

You had not seen Departed before? WTF
Wahlberg is also good in Shooter.
Watched Street Kings with Keanu. Good Cop movie. Elements of it reminded me of End of Watch as well as Training Day. Then I looked up the Director and it's David Ayer who made Training Day and End of Watch. lol

The Raid 2 is a great undercover cop movie. The first Raid is also a great movie in of itself.
There's also Infernal Affairs which is the Chinese movie Scorsese adapted for The Departed.

Wahlburg was good in The Fighter as well, if we look passed Christian Bale's showstopping performance.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
I find the Departed very overrated tbh, i don't even like it really.
To the point i don't really understand the praise it gets, i can think of at least half a dozen scorsese films i prefer.

YEHHHHSSSSS, the picture of motion known as The Departed was MEDIOCRE, DEFICIENT and WRETCHED. The DAWDLING pace of this picture of motion caused my mortal vessel to fall into a state of STUPOR.
The HUMDRUM narrative failed to ENGROSS my vessel. It was most certainly not WORTHY of the TREMENDOUS rating it received on the SITE of WEB known as IMDB.

Scorsese really loves Di Caprio. No doubt he would have been one of the trio in goodfellas was he old enough then.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
He had a similar relationship going with Bobby De Niro in his prime years as well.
De Niro - Scorsese = 7 (+1 adding The Irishman)
Leo - Scorsese = 5

Didn't see that about Johan Johansson that's too bad. His score for Arrival was incredible.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
Did anyone see Three Billboards yet?
I thought it was good and McDormand is great in it (as Rockwell and Harrelson are), but I found it, at times, incredibly confused.
It was hilarious, it had many great scenes and cinematography, yet it also was tragic and serious. Those are the good things, but I still found it very confused in many aspects.
I understand that this is, in part, in design. McDonagh makes all the characters flawed, and that should be applauded (the characters do truly all feel very complex and real, and this is partially what allows for such great acting in the film), but in more ways than one, I felt the film was misguided in some of it's overall themes of power, female rage and oppression of minorities by police.
I DID find it's portrayal of small town America, with McDonagh's no holes barred style, refreshing and spot on for the current political climate, however. This is, perhaps, the part of the film that held the most clarity throughout.
It's still a 7.5-8/10 for me, but I didn't think I came out of it thinking about what a great film it was. It was good, it was enjoyable, it's worth seeing, but it's not one of the best movies of the year for me.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
I have no idea why it’s an Oscar front runner. By far McDonaugh’s worst film.
It’s fine to good, but yeah, it’s confused. I really don’t know why everyone seems so enamoured with it. It’s like they haven’t seen his other works and the comedy hit more.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
Yeah even by judging off the trailer, it seems a bit off. Think it comes out here around the 20th or so.
Decided I'll watch screeners online for Phantom Thread and Call me By Your name, they're actually not that bad quality as ones in previous years.
Then I'll catch I, Tonya, 3 Billboards and Lady Bird in cinema.
Went to see Disaster Artist today. Nothing pretty much but a tribute to Tommy Wiseau. James Franco nailed the performance. The movie is just about 3.5/5.

Hidden gem. De Niro smashed it as usual.
Anyway I have a lot to watch when it comes to Scorsese.
For me, from what I have seen, top 3 are
1. Taxi Driver (my favourite film of all time)
2. Goodfellas
3. King of Comedy

Everything in the movie is referencing some kind of existing pop culture.
That robot is the iron giant.
