Liverpool continue to be linked with seemingly every midfielder who has ever played in Europe.

And the Mirror have known thrown Schalke's Max Meyer into the mix.

The German international has been linked with a move to Anfield before, and now the report suggests Jurgen Klopp has been 'buoyed' over claims the player's agent has cancelled a meeting to discuss a new deal.

The 22-year-old will be a free agent in the summer with his contract with Schalke expiring, prompting speculation over his next destination.

The Mirror believe that could be Liverpool or Arsenal, although the player has also been linked with a number of clubs across the continent.

New Schalke president Clemens Tonnies has suggested the meeting between Meyer and the Gelsenkirchen club was cancelled.

Speaking to Bild, he said: "I had an appointment with Max and his advisor, which was cancelled by his agent on short notice.

not seen much of him tbh. @hans would he be a good signing or not.

Solid player that would shore up our midfield. We would have to convince him. Really have to make the CL though... that way we can attract more players easily.

He was quoted at 5M per season at Juve in January

Also remember that Serie A wages are usually reported after taxes if memory serves right, the 200k is probably gross in the prem. The trade off is, if he's signed for free then you can easily justify a higher wage packet. Rather than playing his former club a premium, you can entice him with higher wages and even if he flops, he'll still sell and bring money back. Quick maths

tbh i know our MF needs fixing but i dont care one little bit that can is leaving. in fact it is a blessing if he leaves. if he stays klopp will start him every game and if we are to push on and get better we wont do that if he stays. but i will give the guy his due he has always give 100%

guys keep in mind that wages are reported in England as gross, including taxes, where as in italy they report the net amount.

so assuming that the tax rate is 50% in italy, Can is looking for around the same amount of money as Pjanic and Dybala (who i am sure will be asking for a raise soon).

So chill, the number of european footballers who make 10 mil net per season is fairly low. Actually i dont think anyone in Italy makes that kind of money. In comparison, CR makes around 21 mil net this season, Neymar 36 mil net, Messi signed a deal to make 40+ mil net.

I think Allegri wants to add some pace in the squad but 23 year old playing in Premier League = must be quite expensive this guy. Darmian is more realistic.

Martial i don't believe it unless Dybala leaves.

Emre Can we are only after him for the bargain, a free transfer. Not our plan A in midfield. Could be a decent replacement for a declining Khedira but not at any cost (salary). Not reliable at defending.

Khedira 5% of fuel left in the tank, just enough to make it to the end of the season. After that it make sense that we sell him or we'll get 0€ next year. MLS would be a cool league to finish his career and earn himself some golden balls before retiring.

None for RB because Bellerin is staying. We might try for a backup RB

Max Meyer has been linked with Arsenal as well, might be Wilshere’s replacement if w can get him.

Until today there has been nothing concrete in any position, we don’t even know if Wenger will be manager in the summer.
