Elden Ring

After DS1 and DS2 i also went into huge retirement only to return and start DS3 recently.( I started DS3 last year but stopped it midway and proceeded to finish DS2). I am halfway there but now want to get in with Elden Ring. I have promised myself that i will finish DS3 first and then proceed to ER/BB. But if GL seduces me enough I might break it and go for Elden Ring next week.

After resuming casual gaming since 2018 I went on a string of completing games beginning with DS3 to Bloodbourne Sekiro. Definitely worth it and for the most part to build up to my anticipated Elden Ring. First will play and complete Demon Souls PS5 and cap it off with ER.

Holy fucking shit the reviews for Elden Ring are out of this world.

By far the most acclaim for a FromSoft game.

Clearly their magnum opus and the evolution they needed.

Will probably end up getting it sooner than I expected with all this hype. I watched the last two trailers and it did look great.

One thing that makes me doubt for the moment is that in the two reviews I watched no one commented on the story. I'm hoping there is an interesting narrative.

The reviews are ridiculous. Everyone praising it for an outstanding adventure game and the open world is apparently so detailed that you see something new every 5 minutes.

I am so hyped.

Pre ordered it last week. Will probably be 2-3 weeks before I touch it depending on how fast I 100% Horizon.

There is a ring in the name and it isn't LOTR so idk about kids games imho. Have not watched one episode of GoT regardless of social pressure.

I'm not a fan of DarkSouls/Bloodborne type stuff but the game looks nice, a little overhyped maybe but it does appear to be great for what it is.

People still getting scammed by first day reviews.

Tsk of course Harmonica seething at the reviews since its not Elder Scrolls from 1994..

Anyway I remain surprised as I did not expect such stellar ratings given it looks good to me but more so just an open world DarkSouls though I did not look as close into it as I should have.

Just such a surprise given the steady stream of 9.2 mostly the avg rating for FromSoft games turned into this.

DemonSouls PS5 definitely my next game and will follow it into this.

Congrats to Firenze who was quite looking forward to this than even I and my friends here. Cant wait.

My gf got it for me today totally unexpectedly.

Played like 2 hours. Very engrossing, that classic dark souls tension is here as well. Graphics aren't incredible but the world is beautiful. It feels dense, just walked around the main area after the tutorial, died almost immediately to the first enemy I saw in the open world Walked off the path a bit, found a crypt, explored, died a bunch, beat a boss, realized that was completely optional.

Good feelings so far.

I have the PS4 disc so waiting till tomorrow for it to become a ps5 version

The story of Soulsbourne games aren't anywhere near barebones.

They are set up so you make your own hunt for clues as its based more on lore and piecing them together through exploration. Thats the beauty of it.

Yes Fromsoft games wont blow your mind in graphics if ever as the best was Sekiro to which downright looked impressive but I rather see detail, to which you described there.

The story of souls games is completely bare bones (didn't play bloodborne).

The one here I have higher hopes for but the setup is quite basic.

The game narrates in the intro a very similar backstory as previous games. "There are the shards of the elden ring, you are a basically a form of undead, here the 5(?) Demigods descended from the Princess you have to seek out" and off you go into the world.

Its the narrative structure of NES rpgs.

The thing I really like about Elden Ring from that small bit I played is that it removes all the hand-holding from other open world games that point everything in the map, have all the steps of the quests outlined, mark exactly the way you have to go, etc.

Exploring will be great.

Steam 60% with 20k reviews. 10/10 release review game is actual 0/10 when you actually try to play it. Because it doesn't fucking even work.

Well probably. But then it can't really be 10/10 game? I bet they gave reviewers a no anticheat version, and then slapped antishit on the release. Which is the biggest reason for poor performance and stutters. But that's not how this all works, that's a plain con of customers. Also most people can't even play because controllers don't work, and can't even change settings because of it.
