He switches teams and has to alter his role, now most people seem to think that he's just a good player, nothing special. He has been a brilliant player for years.

Rooney is very good too and I feel he's underrated a bit. But Villa still edges it for me.

Remember when Rooney was facing the World cup slump? See the forums' opinion on him. Study the trends of this forum and its opinions on players that are only in bad form.

Villa is by far and hands down the best striker in the world and has been for years.

Yeah, I remember. It's just the inevitable knee-jerk reactions that come with good or bad form (I have to admit I myself do it sometimes too lol).

I regarded Villa as the best striker in the world when he was playing for Valencia. Not that sure about now but he's in the same bracket as Eto'o for me, two of the best strikers there are.

I think the question should be more specific, e.g. who's the better goalscorer etc.

What?

Villa is actually off form and has been on form for the past....well his whole career.

Rooney has a long way to go to compare with him.

I do not see how Eto is superior then him as Villa has been statistically better then Eto and in some ways, has had a better career then him as well. Lets not forget Villa is far more complete then him

Rooney is a better playmaker even though he isn't one. He's a better all round striker. He scored a lot of goals in 09-10 as a lone striker and he can play well as a SS too.

Very true post, well said.

It's as if Villa has turned from the best striker in the world into Kanoute or someone of a similar stature. This is after winning La Liga and the Champions League, scoring 23 goals and making 9 assists along the way.

The Barca hate cloud is overhead.

Why you dissing kanoute? He is a great guy and was great striker for sevilla.

Most people are hating on villa because of his form not because of barca.

Anyways Villa edges it for me.

I am not hating on Kanoute. I am trying to explain that opinions on Villa seem to have changed a lot in one year. This being the most successful of his career too.

A lot of people rated him as the best in the world certainly top 3. All of a sudden he's only a good striker.

I don't even know if rooney is a striker or the playmaker for man u. To be honest Rooney has an all round game is not amazingly good at one thing but he basically has very good qualities in everything.

Villa on his day is an exceptional finisher and to me is the better striker, however as jibers said and as I said Rooney is much more then just goals.

Madridone, villa is not faster then rooney, just clearing that up. Rooney is god damn fast, and I thought he was slow.
