Spain and Italy are a class above everyone else and then I would rate Portugal next. Also, I know some people will knock Spain's defense because they keep the ball, but kudos to them.
If other teams could win possession battle every game and keep the pressure off of there defense I'm sure they would do it, it's not as easy as you think and playing the high line there defenders play is extremely difficult as well. Some very celebrated defenders in Europe would be exposed terribly if they had to play that high line and play the ball out of the back instead of just booting it up field.

anyway its not about the individuals with enlgand, its that as a team they suck when it comes to defending. their players are not tactically aware enough.

France for me, but I think alot of you are underrating England's defence.
Apart from Walker at RB, there's 3 proven defenders at the highest level. Ferdinand, Terry, and Cole.
