How highly do you rate Cavani?

For those that watch Serie A and see him consistently. What would you say his strengths and weaknesses are?

I was impressed with him in the CL against City, but my Italian friend has said this is not the Cavani you see every week.

Very high. Obviously not up to last season's exploits, but still a very good player.

A very very good striker. One of the best target men in the world after Ibra and Gomez. Still though, Cavani unfairly gets most of the credit, where Lavezzi has been the architect of everything Cavani does and Lavezzi has definitely been the best on Napoli and probably in Italy, but Cavani gets the credit cuz he scores the goals. Unfair to Lavezzi. Still though Cavani is an amazing striker.

better than dzeko and balotelli for sure .

Yeah not bad, but theres prob 10-15 strikers or more that I could name off the top of my head that are better

Name them.

RVP,Ibra and Gomez are the only ones I can think of that are better.And It's really close too.Cavani is also one of the best big-game players you could find.

In terms of this forum's appraisal of Cavani, I do believe that in certain aspects of his game Cavani is overrated, namely his technique which is comparatively poor given his reputation. I've seen him listed when people inquire as to frontmen with the best technique, however I believe this is one of his weaknesses. It is not a weakness that inhibits his play though and in fairness his technique for a centre forward is perfectly adequate, he's simply not of the echelon of a striker such as Ibrahimovic.

His work rate, movement and finishing distinguish him as one of Europe's finest frontmen however. Despite flourishing in what is a counter-attacking system which play to his strengths he's by no means a selfish or uninvolved striker. Cavani works harder than any striker in Europe when it comes to defending for his team. He'll chase down a player for more than half the pitch then make a tackle on the edge of the box, and he'll do it all game. I've described him before as Napoli's third best centre-back before with good reason.

Napoli's front three are quite fluid and it's not unusual for Cavani to spend large portions of the game on the wing whilst Pandev or Lavezzi adopt a more central role and he thrives on interchanging positions with his team mates and aiding the team's midfield exchange before he appears at the perfect moment in the box to fashion a chance.

As concerns your friend's criticism that the Cavani who was so deadly against City isn't the one that turns up every week in the league, there is a degree of truth in it, however over the course of 38 games drops in intensity are natural and it must be said that Mazzari's lack of rotation can leave the team absolutely exhausted at times. As an overall quantity and what he brings to his team I consider one of the best centre forwards in the world, certainly.

Falcao maybe is better.Higuain and Benzema no in my opinion.Also Cavani is the ultimate big game player.He scored a goal against City and a Brace,A Brace against Inter,A goal and two assists against Chelsea and A Hatrick against Milan and Juve.

Messi, van Persie, Gomez, Rooney, Higuain, Benzema, Falcao, Ibrahimovic, Aguero, Llorente.

That's 10.

Messi is a Centre Forward,Higuain and Benzema aren't better IMO.Llorente isn't better and Rooney isn't a Striker anymore.The rest are better But you have to consider that with the Exception of Falcao they all have much better Service than Cavani.

Benzema's better. Higuain and Cavani are on the same level.

He has more Goals than Both this season playing for a much Inferior team.

But yeah, I must admit he's a great striker - and I like him for not being lazy.

However look at the stats :

Benzema : 51 matches, 31 goals
Higuain : 53 matches, 26 goals

Cavani : 46 matches, 32 goals

^ Not sure what you're trying to argue there, but if you were to base it on stats, wouldn't that just mean Cavani is better - considering he has more goals than both in less games played?

Most of them arent even out and out Centre Forwards.

I am surprised you dint include Podolski,Gervinho,Walcott and Ox to the list too.

Biased? Because I put van Persie in there? You really think that Cavani is better than van Persie? lmao, OK.

Nope its not cuz you included RVP in there as i've admitted he is the best striker in the world anyway.

But the fact that you've included second strikers in your list just to prove your claim to show he isnt Top 10.

Cavani is top 5 striker in the world..Period.

He meant Higuain and Benzema have been sharing time and both of them have played alot less minutes than Cavani.

Benzema >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cavani. Cavani is only better at heading, pressing and scoring. But that's it, Benzema is superior in all other aspects. And Benzema isn't even far off in terms of scoring....
