You can when the amount of evidence needed for conviction is lower.

In the court of law they needed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Terry had broken some low, in the FA's little trial they only needed to prove "on the balance of probability" that something inappropriate was said/done... so they only had to prove that there was a 50% or greater chance that Terry said what he's accused of saying rather than just repeating what he heard. Honestly, that's a pretty damned easy case to win as it will always seem more likely someone said something outright than that they got caught at the exact moment they were repeating something.

I do no, for the life of me, understand why the FA are giving a different punishment though.

Agreed Red, I'm still dumbstruck at his sheer stupidity if his story is true and he was repeating what Anton was accusing him of saying. It's basically a black guy saying to a white guy, "Did you just call me a black c**t?" then the white guy replying, "Black c**t?". Who does that? The instant response after the accusation would be "No I didn't", no one repeats what they have been accused of saying.

Terry would look a hell of alot less stupider if he intentionally used a racial slur to wind up Anton, because his story makes him display a level of ineptitude that borders on the imbecilic.

To be honest its nothing to do with the fans.

The penalties for fans being found guilty of such things are very harsh.

Usually life time bans from football grounds with other penalties.

I would say more of a bad president is set for kids starting footballing careers.

If the rule book can say its 3 game ban for a red card, and 1 for 2 yellows surely they can add a rule saying if a party is found guilty of saying something racist they will be banned for X amount of games. No exceptions to the circumstances, if they said it they are banned for this long.

We'll have to wait for the full findings before making any real judgements on the case, but it will be interesting to see how they explain the different punishments handed out. Hopefully they do provide some sort of explanation rather than just leaving it unaddressed.

I know 4 games in not much but at least for 4 weeks no player would be racially abused when they face Chelsea. rofl

Suarez got twice the ban Terry did and Terry was on video saying what he said. This is a joke. The FA always looks after their own.
