Who's the LeBron James of Football?
Keep in mind he'd probably have to be an athletic freak capable of impacting the game both offensively and defensively while being the primary source of goals(points) for his teammates
Messi - Jordan - Simply the GOAT. Both basketball and football have never seen such a dominant and consistent player on offense.
Ronaldo - Kobe - Similar statistical output and often compared with MJ but ultimately comes up short when it comes to effciency, individual accolades and standout moments.
Drogba - Shaq - Due to their athletic gifts and rare coordination for the size both simply are unplayable whenever their up for it but perhaps never took the sport as seriously as they should have.
Torres - McGrady - Had a couple of outstanding seasons and were once considered the best but injuries derailed their careers and both are the butt of unfunny jokes now.
Couple of obvious ones for me.
Anyway thinking it over its probably Gerrard. Only difference is instead of moving to Chelsea (Heat) to further his career Stevie stuck with his hometown team and instead of finishing his career as maybe Top 5 all time inferior players like Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo and Scholes will be ranked ahead of him when his career is over. Pretty much ruined his legacy outside Scouseland.

LeBron James is the LeBron james of basketball imo

Thanks for correcting me bro and you're insane.
LeBron will go down as the 2nd best player of all time. Vidal doesn't have anywhere near hat level of talent even as good as he is right now. Gerrard once did.

Re: Who's the LeBron James of Football?
Meh I was only going off of what you said
Athletic freak - Vidal has insane stamina. Check
Main source of goals - Top scorer for us. Check
Impacts both areas of the game. Check
Vidal is a defensive GOAT. 2nd best of all time? No. But there's no point using a 'best of all time' thing to filter out results.
Atm Vidal's the best at what he does, which is good enough.

Hard to find a football player with the hairline of Robben, the body and all around ability as Yaya Toure, and the statistical output of Messi
More importantly, who is the Scalabrine of Football

his game is nothing like Jordan's, that's Kobe... But I don't want to turn this into a basketball thread so I'll stop here, just continue to witness his greatness

I can't believe I agree with Gil but he's deadly spot on with this one.
Gerrard is the obvious choice here

Re: Who's the LeBron James of Football?
There isn't one. Lebron is one of the most atheletically dominant players in any sport ever. He can play and defend every position. And having him on your team is an automatic trip to the finals regardless of who else is on the team.
The only one I can think of maybe would Maradona. But even that isn't really all that close

Re: Who's the LeBron James of Football?
Gerrard could play any position as well too.
He started off as a fullback has played CM, AM, DM, CF, LW, RW etc
One of the most gifted players I've ever seen.
And LeGOAT is one of the greatest athletes of all time but he never guaranteed a finals appearance until he went to team up with a solid supporting cast in Miami which is why I made the Gerrard comparison.

Re: Who's the LeBron James of Football?
Maradona wasn't athletically dominant at all. Maradona should be compared to Magic Johnson, except more relevant when it came to results.

I feel as though many people have forgotten how amazing of a physical specimen Gerrard was in his prime which is why they find it so hard to comprehend this comparison. Athletically, he was second to none. Fast, strong, agile, balanced etc etc.
