While ignoring the sheer obvious fact, while I see this as a tactical conundrum, I think what would be affected the most is Benzema. In fact, Bale and CR can work, it's not in the realms of the impossible but Benzema would be the one getting the shaft.

Not that I'm a fan of the French goat but I personally think he should be given (another) chance to show his true worth.

We're looking at another Galactico era  Ozil won't stay wide.  Neither will Bale.  Modric likes to run in the middle...  and to boot, Marcelo likes to cut in too.

It's like Chelsea last year with Hazard-Mata-Oscar...  you can't play so many guys with similar profiles.  They wind up taking turns doing their thing as opposed to doing it together.

CR7 and Bale are basically going to take turns.  So are Isco, Ozil and Modric.  I actually like Khedira better than Illaramendi at this point... but whoever it is, he can't do all the ball recovery alone ffs.

On this subject, are they really going to move Cristiano to striker? He really really doesnt like that. He hated it with Portgual, you can see him on the pitch distraught that he isnt getting enough touches of the ball.

Bale as in individual is a good signing for Madrid (not at that cost but whatever, its nothing to them) but how he fits the jigsaw is another question. I think the guys in midfield and at the back will really have to perform because those forward players, Bale included, really arent the most defensive concious. The last 6 months of Bale, I see a player who thinks he made it and doesnt have to track back...which used to be a great asset of his.

Maybe it was AVB telling him not to, I understand coaches like to do this sometimes...but at Madrid, I think he will have to find that desire back because for all Di Maria's faults, he would never cheat you for effort.

Illaramendi has fatigue problems... whatever that means. But they shut him down mostly until he got his energy back.
