Wilshere has been found out

The great white hope has been shown up for the great teenager / cant progress middle of the road player that he is.
Is he holding? Attacking? If there was a role inbetween that would be perfect. The just there role.
Wheres wilshere playing? Just there...

I wrote in some "which players to watch" pre-season thread that Wilshere is an interesting one, that he needs to have a good season. It's early days but he his start hasn't been that promising...

Jack is special but he is on the crossroad thinking where to go while his fellow teammates are improving.

I still think he has lots potential but only he can decide whether to be a Xavi or end up like Gerrard.

Dude hasnt played consistently in way too long, nothing to do with talent.

When you dont play consistent football, you arent going to take that next step.

Just like Van Persie, just like Robben.

If he plays consistent football for a stretch, he will be progress.

Agree. Also it's not up to him to decide what position and role suit him best. Wenger should know. Gone are the days where we would play players out of position just because they are kinda versatile.
Ramsey was played on the right ffs ...

Wilshere isn't the only player in that situation though. Many young players had to go through this phase.

He was injured for a year and a half. came back and couldn't play 4 games in a row without getting injured. He lost 2 seasons worth of development.

Now he is finally fit and slowly regaining his sharpness and form but the problem is that the other players in the meantime have improved and can't be displaced while others are just undroppable. But he has been looking good recently. He is 95% there and will be back to being what he was supposed to be as long as he doesn't pick up another injury.

Regarding his position. It was thought that his position was no 10 but his best attributes are not fit for that role. I don't think Wilshere will ever be a goal scorer. He will get 10 goals a season but will not score as many as the likes of Cazorla/Mata. His best strength is exceptional dribbling skills, creating space, ball retention and passing. On the other hand he isn't a B2B nor a disciplined enough player to be a regista.

I said this in the Arsenal section that he is basically an Iniesta. Similar style, similar strengths and similar positional pattern. This is what Arsene said about Wilshere yesterday

The Arsenal manager no longer sees Wilshere as a natural 'No 10' - despite his shirt number - and thinks his new role can help the 21-year-old rediscover his trademark "burst".

"He is getting it back and I think playing on the flanks helps him to find that back, because on the flanks you have to do a lot of that," said Wenger. "Once he will have that back… his performances physically recently are like that.

"Deep-lying midfielder or wide [are his best positions] because higher up he is less comfortable at the moment. He doesn’t like to have his back to goal, he likes to face the game.

"Why? Because he has a burst to pass people with the ball at his feet. From deep he does that very well, he creates the openings for that little burst to run with the ball. He is a physically strong boy, he has a good body. He can win the challenge and make the difference and open the game up."

Wenger cited Aaron Ramsey as an example of a player who can still thrive despite being stationed on the flank, and he thinks Wilshere's natural versatility will help him thrive.

"You ask every good football player and he says to you [he wants to play] ‘in the centre’," said Wenger. "Nobody says I want to play wide, I’ve never heard that.
"But on the other hand I had Nasri, he and Silva they all play wide. It’s not like they are forced to stay out there. Ramsey the other night, he played on the right side and had an outstanding game. Because he is not pinned there, he can move.

"Jack can play basically everywhere. He is an important player for the squad, and he will play. But there is competition for places of course. On one side, people want you to have good players, on the other, that means you cannot give any guarantee to anybody."

Wilshere is still one of the best talents in the world. Just need to stay fit and keep working.

Wilshere's problem is he hasn't matured and i have spoke about Wilshere so many times and what is wrong with him and what his weaknesses are i'm not going to bother again lol.

Has a shit load of talent but needs to get confidence and fitness back as well as learning the game as he's still a kid as far as his on pitch intelligence goes.

Biggest problem for Jack is that he is played out on the left. He is a bull dog, midfielder. I have full confidence he will come good. Remember he was out for 16 months with an injury, thats a long time.

The guys got class and is definitely better than most of the talent his age. Have to remember he is only 21, he has time on his side and he has the class to come through.

Nothing has been found out about him. Give him a full season and he will come good. Its no coincidence that Arsenal's best form last season was when he was in the team. He will be a future captain of Arsenal for sure

That isn't true though..... Arsenal's best form came when they played Arteta-Ramsey-Walcott-Rosicky-Cazorla-Giroud.

He needs to mature and a stretch of games, playing out of position is fine, it works wonder for Rambo.

And anyone who said he's bull dog, clearly havent watched him this season, he went down quite easily from a lightest touch, just like Rambo or Eduardo after their long injuries. bull dogs this season is Rambo, Mathieu not Jack. As a gunner, i'm not worried, after Rambo, i trust Wenger completely, he will bring out the best of Jack in a year or 2.
