Personally I wish more people would take a "wait and see" approach to young talent. Appreciate it when some wonderkid does some great stuff, and be patient when these young guys go through rough patches. Yes, a lot of hyped players end up fizzling out. But plenty of others simply need time to be a more or less finished article. Not every great player is polished by the age of 19 or 20. Most need a few more years for us to be sure, and have ups and downs along the way. It's true that the Wilshere hype machine has sometimes gotten out of hand in recent years, and even at his best he's had things to improve on (like raw stats in goals + assists). But it's OK to acknowledge his shortcomings while thinking he's also a special talent.

(OT, but speaking of Ajax how is Fischer doing this season? I haven't watched any Ajax matches lately but he was a young player I really admired last year.)

Yeah, I agree with this, he's still only 21 and deserves some time. Some take a little longer to really establish themselves. Plus, with his injury history it makes even more sense that he's not quite there yet.

We are speaking as if Jack Wilshere is 26 years old and in his prime.

Whereas the truth is, he is of 21 years, an age where 10 years ago would have been near unthinkable to play at such levels.

Wilshere is simply going through a transition period in which all the stumbles in his nascent career have caused a hindrance in the transitory era within his form.

Reasons come down to mental adaptation of how the English media and Arsenal (to a lesser extent) have created a near insurmountable platform for him, to which he simply cannot mentally cope with until maturity is struck. Like Stephan El Shaarawy of Milan (different case of sorts and still performs), he mentally needs to be recalibrated after being exposed to such attention, expectation and burdens at much to early in his stage. Jack and El Shaarawy through their performances have had the burden of leadership (future captaincy), carrying their team and continued to feel the needed propensity to elevate their game.

EVERY single youngster goes through this transition point, to which ACTUALLY HELPS there progress, given how early it is needed to feel this slump, to which only motivates them to excel upon and through their hindrances. A right manager is key compartment to their progress as this stage, and Arsene Wenger is BY FAR the best manager to help him through this.

Wilshere also needs to redevelop his game:

-Plethora of roles help and build foundation upon how he adapts on various stages of the pitch but also creates a sense of minutia of conviction on where to move and how to perform your role. Wenger guilty of the latter.

-Teams have figured him out. Too many times his play is composed of bursts down central midfield in a rather predictable pattern. His movement into dangerous spots and passes into nonsensical areas a testament to his immaturity. He needs to learn on how to stop thinking he is the (constant) talisman at his age, especially when Arsenal don't need one. Why? Arsenal are a fantastic team now. Unit and cohesive play is needed, as compared to the disjointed one in the 1st half of last season.

-He needs to work on his weaker foot (right). Playmakers such as him will struggle if not developing their weaker foot as why Oezil, Silva are oblivious at times when closely marked in study, due to their lack of ability in their other foot. At 21 he has much time.

-Needs to mature and develop maturity on and off the ball. Needs to rid himself of a recent chip on the shoulder bravado, calm down and play football. Normal for a youngster, yet this needs to be addressed.

Yet heed my words, Wilshere in terms of pure raw talent is simply Arsenal's jewel. Not Ramsey, not Gnabry, Gibbs, Ox etc. Ramsey excelled through mental development and tactical augmentation as otherwise at his worst, he was unbearably bad. I too was one of Ramsey's largest critics of last season, and now at 23 he has completely re-developed his game and turned into a Marchisio type superstar midfielder, who at the moment is unstoppable.

Wenger is quite simply the perfect man to address his faults. At times he was too careful to protect Jack Wilshere from exposure (similar to Ox) and at times he wasn't careful to protect him from the media. Roy Hodgson, who is an utter disgrace to man management tends to call youngsters even after 2 games of performance (a massive flaw in England) which also created a caustic platform for Wilshere, which provided needless exposure.

I predict within the 2nd contingent of the season, Jack will rediscover himself and role. He will follow to the path of Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky and eventually prove why his talent is held in such high regard after all.

He is one of the best talents in world football, give him time.

He is rusty.

Arsenal have really had disgusting luck with injuries to the future of the team (wilshere and ramsey)

hes not a winger/striker. hes a industrious midfield player who can score the odd goal and get assists. the bad injuries hes had over the past season made him look fragile
