Simply because I've watched a lot of Ozil this year. The level he's playing at is up there only behind the best of the best (MSN etc) right now. Based on the eye test, he's just a lot better than everyone else in the EPL.

That's not to take anything away from Vardy or Mahrez. On this season alone then yes I have to rate Vardy very highly (I do think that people aren't giving him the respect he deserves for his performances this season) but on the whole, he's just not a top striker. There is a reason it's taken him this long to burst onto the scene. Full credit to him, but again, I said talent + performances. Mahrez on the other hand has bags of talent and has the performances to back it up, and he's a great player and has been one of the best in the league this year, but he's just not Ozil.

All credit to Mahrez what he's doing with Leicester is great and deserves praise but put him in Arsenal and he's not doing what Ozil is doing. Talent wise Ozil kills Mahrez and performance wise he's been as good if not better.

I again, will not comment on anything regarding EPL POTY. Too early to start those discussions anyway and I regret doing so in the other thread because it's a dumb award and it's far too soon to discuss it anyway.

Mahrez is the best player so far .

i'd take what he and Vardy have been doing over Ozil's 1 meter assists .

Talent isnt what wins you the POTY though it is your performances and Vardy's goals is the reason Leicester are at the top of the table. As I said things could change but for now he has been the best. On talent alone Özil is obviously better than both no doubt about that

Except that the question posed above isn't related to player of the season.
In that case I'd have to consider Eder and Kalinic among best players in Serie A because they had great seasons thus far.

Özil is an established player of proven quality and he's now backing it up with great performances while the likes of Vardy and Mahrez have only had a terrific half season and thus it's too early to mention them in the same breath as other top players.

@ farfan, Özil has definitely been excellent this season. Now I know you dont rate him highly but he has had a quality first half to the season. It may be debatable who has been more influental to its team's success between himself, Mahrez and Vardy but when you compare him against the players who have arguably had the best start to the season in their respective leagues his superiourity albeit small is very evident. He only lacks goals and trophies (so far).

Vardy over Mahrez would be a travesty. The latter has been the best in the league tbh. Ozil is a better footballer but what Mahrez (and Vardy) is doing with Leicester can't be ignored

I'd go with Mahrez right now because his team is top of the league with is an amazing feat. Let's see if they keep up their good form for the 2nd half. Mahrez might get tired whereas Ozil can be rested as Arsenal's squad is stronger.

And your point is? That one player who scored 2 long range screamers deserves POTY more than a player who scored 10 goals from inside the penalty area?

This is of course counter intuitive and goes against the notion that shinning individually is harder with lesser teammates ...

Anyways let's wait and see. The hardest part of the season is yet to come. However Mahrez/Vardy and Leicester did great for the 1st half. I don't see the point of belittling Mahrez by saying that he couldn't do it for a big team. Maybe yes , maybe no ? how do they know ? Atm He's better than many players of those '' big teams ''.
