not to trust Woodward is another matter. I have a theory about Woodward and his transfer dealings, which I will however only voice if it gets corroborated should we beat you to Benatia 3-4 days after Javi gets injured and we decide we need to buy a CB after all.

I'm not sure about the Benatia thing, the things that Bild and Sport1 said today (i.e. it's pretty much done) are apparently not true at all.

Anyway, the theory is along the lines of Woodward being a banker. Didn't he join you after advising the Glazers how to do the takeover etc?
So his actual line of work is doing deals in the financial industry.

Now this is pure prejudice, resentment and speculation but I could imagine that means he does deals for transfers also via the financial industry. I think with Mata it was like 'Utd have not bid officially, but a intermediary' etc., which is probably some investment bank or some shit.

To me that sounds overly complicated, to get certain benefits/accounting tricks (Ed is an accountant) etc.

I think we go there and more or less just offer the money and pay the fee lol.

The Mata deal was actually pretty smart, but I'm pretty sure he leaked that to make himself look good. We knew Chelsea wanted Rooney so we never directly talked to them so the topic wouldn't be brought up, and got Mata's clause in writing.

However, it's never been hard for us to buy players from our own league. Foreign or not, but outside our league is where we have trouble. With Gill or Woodward it's the same. Yeah, Woodward is an accountant but he had been shadowing David Gill for years.

I think something needs to be done, may be a sporting director or something but it would require Woodward to decide himself that it's too much work for him, since the only people above him are the Glazers and they don't get involved in club matters.

You're on a negative emotional trajectory from last season, which is understandable, but van Gaal means what he says.

He doesn't care so much about transfers and buying players, but about getting your players to play as a team and reach their level.

Which is what he said after the game.
He didn't say 'It's dissapointing our players are not good enough' but he said 'It's dissapointing we didn't play as a team, the players did not reach their level", and "you have to keep shape".

He's working on them, and you need to take a deep breath and see what happens.

If you wanted a summer of desperately throwing money at every big name you should have kept Moyes.

The team is shit, bar a few players. Riddled with average players, shit players and players who are not ready to make the step up yet.

It doesn't need a rocket science to see we badly need reinforcements of a certain standard.

LVG was subtle with his dressing of the squad issues and the lack of quality when he first joined the club, but now after the defeat, there was a glare of frustrations. It's seeping out.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is at Woodward's neck behind the scenes telling to get cracking with players HE WANTS.

Looks like it's close now, hopefully done before the weekend so he can be available. Also, hope we get a winger before the Sunderland game, because if it's like Swansea, and we need to switch to 4-2-3-1, we're in a bit of trouble then.

As for Nani, I wish him luck, he's actually been very professional and has never complained about play time afaik. Sometimes you need to move to reignite your career, it was just not going to work for him here anymore.

First of all, I'm happy we've made a signing...an actual signing.

But....is Rojo the quality we need? He didn't look all that from the games I saw him in the WC. We badly need top quality at CB, a leader that can take authority in the back and organize a defence. Rojo could turn out to be a good signing and a solid defender for us, hopefully he does.

Secondly, Nani going the other way on loan can hopefully spark his career back on track. He lost his desire in football imo, and the reason he didn't complain about game time is because I feel complacency set in. He lost the hunger to improve.

This transfer doesn't half solve the problems we have. We badly need a top quality CB addition, a top quality cm/dm and a top quality winger.

We have two fcking weeks to get the adequate signings. How did it come to this?

I didn't mean now RED, I meant when he was on top. Got dropped in CL final for Valencia, I know Valencia was in a good run of form but we all know peak Nani was by far our best winger. I think he handled himself well. When Rooney got dropped vs Real Madrid and subsequently asked to leave, no one was saying he did so because he was pushing himself. I do agree Nani has become disinterested recently though.

On Rojo, admittedly I don't know how good he is, the World Cup is not a great indicator since he didn't play CB. Sporting fans seem to rate him, I posted the video above vs Porto and he dominated that game. Lack of great CBs now days Barca, Liverpool and PSG were unable to find any world class options either, our pool was even more narrowed because LvG wants a left-footed CB that can play LWB too (hence the Vermaelen links). We'll have to see if how he turns out, he might surprise us and be a Vidic/Evra  type signing rather than the a Buttner. I've also read that LvG wants another CB, but ranking wise I'd say CM and a winger is more important right now.

I guess we'll have to see with Rojo, the very least we have a back-up to Shaw though.

Yeah, Moyes was such an expensive flop and when you include missing out on CL football on top of that, it's even worse. We're lucky our Adidas and Chevrolet deals come just in time.
