Did you remove the assists to own penalty goal anomaly?Freeza wrote:Just counted Ronaldo's assist from Transfermarkt
I don't know how you count your assist Harmonica, but Ronaldo has more than 17 assists when you use Transfermarkt. So if you use wide assist, atleast be consistent.
Ronaldo has 54 goals 22 assists = 76 (56 and 23 if counting friendlies from NT).

Nope, but shouldn't matter with that bs stat anyway.
You can't really use the only place they use that stat, and then be selective about it, no matter how it may be weird to assist your own goal.

Yeah, only care about stats. That can be shown by my choices of favourite players: Varane, Isco and Bendtner. Statwhores all of them.
Don't understand how that's different than you picking Transfer markt, and twisting their stat only because it's the only way Messi is above Ronaldo.

You understand that wider rule assists portray better overall participation on goals?

Ronaldo and Messi were both directly involved in 3 goals? They played equally well. Anyone who is rational could see that.

No, Ronaldo and Messi were both involved in 3 goals this week alone. So I don't see how that this week would warrant Messi winning over Ronaldo.

Re: The Official Balon d'Or 2014 Thread
The Bayern winger believes the individual award is no longer decided on achievements and expects Manuel Neuer and Arjen Robben to miss out for that reason
Bayern Munich attacker Franck Ribery feels the Fifa Ballon d'Or is no longer going to the best player in the world and is decided by politics, rather than performances.
The Frenchman was beaten to the prestigious individual award by Cristiano Ronaldo for his 2013 efforts despite guiding Bayern to a historic treble.
Ribery, who is not even in the 23-man shortlist that will be whittled down the three stars shortly this time around, believes the trophy has lost all meaning after witnessing first hand how the Real Madrid star was treated last year.
"I learned a lot during last year's Ballon d'Or gala. As soon as I got there, I told my wife that I would lose," Ribery told Sport Bild.
"I saw how Sepp Blatter was hugging Ronaldo and how his entire family was there. I'm not stupid. It was clear that he had to win it. He wouldn't have brought his entire family with him otherwise.
"It will be the same this year. What can I say about it? Manuel Neuer or Arjen Robben should win it. You can't disagree with this. Manu has won it all, he is a great guy and he isn't arrogant. Arjen has played an incredible season in the Bundesliga and then a fantastic World Cup.
"But I fear it will be about politics again. The Ballon d'Or is no longer for the best player. It's all about politics. Fabio Cannavaro won it in 2006 because he won the World Cup, that's all.
"I don't miss the Ballon d'Or. I am not jealous because this award doesn't mean anything to me any more. I am happy with what I have in Munich.
"When 70,000 fans are screaming my name at the Allianz Arena, I get goosebumps. I can go home happy after that."
An injury-plagued 2014 played a role in Ribery's absence from this year's award, in which Germany and Bayern goalkeeper Neuer, four-time winner Lionel Messi and current holder Ronaldo are favourites.
Still butthurt

He has a point tbh... I don't understand why he's been bitter for so long but it is true that he probably would have won if not for the whole politics surrounding Ronaldo. Would have been interesting to see the votes before and after the extension, I wouldn't be surprised if Ribery was set to win it before

Re: The Official Balon d'Or 2014 Thread
he has no point .
ronaldo winning it this year will be one of the most predictable and non-controversial in the awards history .
lol at people whining about politics .
lol at people who believe neuer should win .
1- play for a team that dominates possession 80 % to 20.
2 - get trashed 5-0 in the CL semis .
3 - make few sweeps against algeria
4 - ???
5 - ballon d'or !!!

As much as I hate to stop you in your crusade on Ronaldo's behalf, I was talking about last year...
As for this year, Neuer deserves the Balon D'or every bit Ronaldo does. Best goalkeeper in the world by a long shot, best player in the World Cup... What does he need to do?

i wasn't responding to you per se .
best goalkeeper in the world by a long shot ? i'm pretty sure courtois had a bigger contribution in his team reaching the CL final and winning the league than neuer's contributions with bayern and germany .
best player in the world cup ? please ... he was germany's best player IN ONE GAME .
he had *bleep* to do against france , brazil , and argentina .

Ever heard of the importance of the psychological factor? With some keepers in goal, the strikers automatically become afraid and shoot worse. But one has to work for that fear factor by immaculate performances otherwise.farfan wrote:against argentina = messi , palacio , and higuain missing the target had very little to do with neuer's brilliance .
