Van Gaal only plays left-footed centerbacks in the LCB position. That's well known. Even Hans here stated years ago that van Gaal would prefer Blind/Rojo over prime Baresi as long as the former are left-footed.

Pretty sure Otamendi was never presented with the choice. It's not like Valencia accepted bids from both sides and Otamendi chose City.

City and chelsea are obviously more attractive than Man U , especially with so many latin players suffering under LVG.

Out of those 3 players, in Pedro for one our interest was genuine. That is sure. Fans will be simply saying these things out of butthurt. But that doesnt change the reality I guess.
Its just that chelsea upped their interest at the right moment and Mourinho cried and begged on phone. And he chose them over us. Valdes and Fabregas could have also played a part.

But other 2 players, we would have been interested at one point, add Clyne to that as well if you want. But then cos of various factors that apparent interest might have cooled.
Firminho - cos we bought Memphis of course and let's face it pool didnt exaclty buy him for cheap or anything like that and we had other priorities at that point to address.

Otamendi - well its been discussed in the last 1 or 2 pages, why our interest cooled in him. In short its the emergence Blind the left footed ball playing centerback (a disaster waiting to happen Laughing

) and Mike smalling.

Clyne - Not exactly sure, probably cos we were scouting Darmian even before that saga and it was used as a diversion tactic ? Media had no clue until a couple of days before where as clyne to united was everywhere floating around.
