Kompany was never really out of my grace. I find most CBs to be inconsistent these days and he had a pretty off year/had injury issues. When he plays like he has for the first two games of this season he's one of the best ones going though.

If you were to say that Messi is running at the defence and there's 40 yards to goal I'm not sure there's any defender in the world I'd rather have against him than Smalling, except maybe Thiago Silva.

no but ever since he got sent off at the Etihad last season he has been our best CB and has continued that form so far into this season.

Otamendi had 1 good season at Valencia last year, don't know why he is so much better then a guy in a similar run of form in Smalling.

Rojo will likely also get back in there once he is up to match fitness (had no pre season due to copa america break and passport issues) and play LCB alongside Smalling. Rojo was very good for us last season as well.
