This still doesn't take into account that cars are inherently useful as they make it possible for people to move from A to B, while guns are *only* good for killing.

linetty wrote:Does these incidencts happen in Germany or Switzerland too?
There have been mass shootings ion Germany, too, but far less frequently. While there is about one every day in the US, in Germany it is a very rare event. I think one or two in a year or so. If there are murders with guns, they are more likely targeted murders of one person (out of jealousy or stuff like that) and not random shootings.

He's not an immigrant he was born in Chicago. He's as American as anybody else.

Also this isn't Europe. Most Pakistanis in this country are highly educated professionals who, when grouped racially, are a part of the most highly paid group in America(Asians).

This guy, at the age of 28, was already making more than 71% of all American workers as an environmentalist specialist in California(52k a year job). To think it was a dead giveaway a guy like him would go "murderous spree" is simply ignoring American demographics.

By the way, there was a terrorist attack in London yesterday where the culprit used a knife and not a gun. In that case there were "only" three persons injured. Now imagine if that guy would have used an (automatic) rifle or gun...

Clearly death isn't enough of a threat to deter most of these *bleep* mind warped losers from doing this, how about promise of torture after getting caught trying to/actually carrying out these acts of terrorism. I'm sure that would make some of these pieces of shit have a nice, long think about consequences.

@RG: Yeah. But it shows that those on the spur "let's do something terrorist" guys can't do as much damage if they can't just walk into some weapon shop and buy a couple of firearms just for fun.

@Tomwin: I guess they would rather enjoy being tortured and feel even more like martyrs that way....

Yes no doubt a ridiculously easy means of getting hold of semi and fully automatic guns makes these problems 50x worse than they need to be.

Agreed. We should deport all arabs, as well as anyone coming from a country ending in stan imo.

Best decision for national security.

We'll never have mass shootings again (:

Obama addressing the nation tonight during prime time. Will be very interested in what he says.

The whole ISIS thing seemed so far away last week, but now we have to address it. He will probably spend most of it talking about gun control though.

Pretty solid speech. Obama wants to restrict gun sales to those on the no-fly list. This should be common sense, but knowing our right-wing party it won't happen.

Pretty amazing that gun sales to suspected terrorists weren't prohibited already.

There are large segments of this country, backed by bought off politicians, who reject all forms of Gun control. Even if it means allowing suspected terrorists to buy guns. Its pretty sad stuff to see.

Dont twist my words.

Im talking about surveillance here. A muslim man who is visiting middle east frequently in this time should be put under surveillance. Is it unfair ? absolutely, after all they are being watched only because of their belief mainly. But is it necessary?  it is. Did a minority of muslims brought this up on entire population? sure.

It is kind of similar to the rape/molestation laws in most of the countries.Women's word is good enough to get a man jailed for couple of weaks. Now is it unfair ? absolutely . how can any one's word taken as some kind of proof to put one in jail?. But is it necessary? yes. Did a minority of men brought this unfair law on entire men? You bet it is.

I get your point, but it would be a lot stronger if Arabs were causing the majority of deaths in Western countries. They just aren't, contrary to what the disproportionate media coverage suggests.

http://time.com/3934980/right-wing-extremists-white-terrorism-islamist-jihadi-dangerous/

Even if they were though, that's a very slippery slope. Now you're watching all Arabs, tomorrow they're in a database, the day after they have ID tags... we all know where this is going.

I see no problem with surveillance if it's ONLY targeted at Muslims with a tendency toward extreme form of Islam like Salafism and Wahhabism.

Anyway, even the most extreme Salafis (like the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia) reject and condemn ISIS on theological grounds. See http://www.lettertobaghdadi.com/. There's nothing suggesting someone who bought a book written by a conservative Salafi (or however else you want to determine their 'tendency towards extreme Islam') is more likely to blow themselves up.

Well, Donald Trump obviously got ideas from Cruijf's post and thinks it is better to ban all Muslims in general from entering the US instead of making it more difficult for extremists to obtain weapons...

Singling out a group due to their religion, penalizing and persecuting them... Why does this eerily remind me of a certain A.Hitler from about 80 years ago?

This really should be the end of his presidential campaign. It's so blatantly unconstitutional and bigoted there should be no way the voting majority lets it stand.

"Should," of course, being the operative word there.

Well congress should have also seen it reasonable to impose restrictions on terror suspects being able to purchase firearms legally.

But no.. if you're considered so dangerous that you need to be monitored by intelligence services, or so dangerous that you aren't even allowed on a plane unarmed - America will defend your right to bear arms including high powered semi automatic weapons. But America will be damned if it lets people in the country who follow a ever so slightly different ancient book to the majority of its people.

Please stop referring to the entire nation, and its populace, as a single entity that actually aligns with the views of a bigoted, racist demagogue. I actively take offense to that.
