Most delusional club fanbase

For me it's a no contender, it's Juve.

Every season it's the same "we're top contenders for CL" "we sold our worst player" "we have the best defense in the world" I could go on forever.

Liverpool easily. Expect them to talk about how good they are again this year and expect them to probably finish 6th, 7th, 8th again.

Juventus I don't understand. They're winning Serie A every year and they're always CL contenders...they have to be expecting a treble every year to be delusional or something.

I read the title and immediately thought Juventus. Now some of my fav posters here are Juve fans and they're reasonable for the most part, but once they get going on something my god they just go all out. Remember when Marchesio was the 2nd coming of jesus? or when the "best midfield in the world" didnt make it past the group stages in CL, or when Vidal was finished after he left and now Dyabala being Messi

Juve are not automatic CL contenders though... that's the funny part to me.  They made 1 final and 2 QFs in the last 10 years.  A perennial CL contender makes the QFs several years in a row (shows consistent quality).

on GL, Juve. IRL from my experience it would be Liverpool fans.

I have to agree with the Liverpool suggestion. A lot of the fans act like we deserve to be a top 4 team or win the league/trophies just because we're Liverpool. I'm an overly optimistic person in general, and I can recognize that Liverpool are not a footballing superpower at the moment. It also makes Liverpool a tough environment for players and coaches at the moment.

Still, I'm confident we'll rise back to the top.

Being a top 4 team in Europe automatically makes you CL contender

The fans that should be delusional but aren't... Atletico Madrid. They've made 2 finals and a semi in the last 3 years yet don't get mentioned in the same breath as Bayern, Barca and Madrid when they CLEARLY should.

They just don't have the sexy superstars or the marketing... but they are elite. No question.

This is such a strawman argument. I bet the 'consistent quarter final team' is probably referring to PSG and that's what's more funny. You have been banging on about how PSG are elite for years because they got a Qatar sponsorship and spending big money yet when it comes to the business end of the competition, they are an absolute minnow just like all French clubs historically are.

It's incredibly stupid to bring results of 10-12 years ago to claim Juve aren't elite. As of now, they are a top 5-6 team in Europe, absolutely. Maybe you can go brag about your quarter final trophy on an OM forum maybe (if there's any)

The only club I don't see being particularly delusional here is Barca, they actually win most things and don't gloat as much.

The one that is the second most delusional is Madrid.

There is this innate sense of superiority and contradictions in too many aspects. They spend a year complaining about their players, pointing out issues, calling their own defenders scrubs, annihilating players left and right, doing some good football analysis (in their own section), and then the moment they compare themselves to another team they rate their squad as everyone being a mix of Messi and Pele and everything changes (in the general section).

No matter what the issue of question (which they may raise themselves), when pressed, the fanbase just brushes everything aside, disregards the facts at hand, and all aspects of their team become the best ever.

Messi exists, yet Cristiano is the best player in the world. Barca keeps raking in the league titles, yet everyone seems to forget come the new season. They won the CDR so it mattered that time, then they get kicked out so it doesn't matter. "our midfield doesn't work, its unbalanced!!", yet it is the best midfield in the world. One side: Ramos is a scrub, the other side: Pepe is a scrub; then both sides call their defense the best around. Marcelo is terrible in defense, yet he is the best left back in the world. Benitez is running this team to the ground and our play sucks, but in reality of course we play like prime Brazil. Kroos is a passenger, Kroos is the best CM since Xavi retired. Kovacic sucks he is not good enough, Kovacic is extremely talented. Zidane hasn't done enough, Zidane actually cured cancer. X player is meh... then X player joins Madrid, he is the best in his position...

The first one of course by far and away are Marseille fans . Nothing like hyping everyone that has touched the soil in France to be the second coming of Maradona.

Atletico have been consistently ranked as a top 5 in Europe, haven't they? I'm pretty sure we had a whole thread dedicated to that and we all came to a consensus

Taking my Roma-tinted glasses off to specifically implicate Roma fans as utterly delusional. Having spent a fair amount of time on Chiesa Di Totti....I enjoy those guys, but goodness me they are so high strung.

Every beginning of the season we're Scudetto contenders until that first loss comes hitting home then all of a sudden we're the worst club in known existence. That's until we hit a winning streak and then we're once again among the best in Europe. We buy into our own hype time and time again. And yet this club is merely a minnow in Europe. Significantly smaller clubs haven't gotten the beatings we've gotten . Yet somehow we still fancy ourselves as having a seat at the table with the big boys. We're that little brother that gets put out of the room so the older kids can smoke weed and look at porn.

I think we're more neurotic than delusional tbh.
