Luis Suarez was the man Empty Luis Suarez was the man

Post by free_cat Wed 20 Jul 2011, 11:30

After seeing this video of Luis Suarez at Liverpool, I think that he was the right signing instead of Alexis Sanchez or Kun Aguero. And consider his price!

Look at how well he driblles and finishes in tight spaces! That's the ability Barça players need, and he is able to drible the entire Man U defence in 4 m2. And he does it again and again!

Plus, although he hasn't scored many goals with Liverpool, we know that his finishing is great. You can't be wastefull scoring 40 goals a season, even if it's with Ajax.

A pity. Let's hope Alexis Sanchez turns out to be as good as him, or better if possible.

Completely agree, its unfortunate we never signed him before when we were after him. Always liked him a lot. He would be ideal right now, but it wouldn't have been possible. Last Summer was the time to strike, or the year before. However, the Ibra deal screwed us with cash a bit... oh and Keirrison, Chyg, yadayada.

He brings some entertainment to a team I always found incredibly dull.

Agreed, Luis would have been a great signing. But at the time, when it looked like Jeffren and Bojan were going to play a regular amount of minutes, it didn't make a lot of sense to go for him.

I said this when Ibra was going out, that we should have gone for Suarez but imo Sanchez will fit Barca than any player out there he ticks all the boxes imo.

Let's not kid ourselves, we did do our fair share of diving/injury feigning, mostly in the last 4 clasico's.

Trust me, he's a diver, as in he takes out his own legs often and rolls around and then bitches to the ref about it.
I believe he grew up in poverty too, I don't see why he would be soft.

Living in poverty has nothing to do with being soft. he has played a lot of years in Netherlands league where most of players are soft. they easily get injured, that's why they prefer to dive so they can protect themselves.

Yes but if you grow up having it tough it generally makes you a stronger person

Sure don't disagree but keep two points in mind. One is that every single team almost without exception has it's fair share of divers. Secondly saying our players dive is one thing but saying we maintain a quota is talking about something no one knows about since none of us actually know what happens behind the scenes.

See the reply I gave to ganso. I don't want to talk about the classicos again because it's been done to death and any discussion is bound to become very unpleasant and not lead to anything constructive. However if there is any unwanted comment, especially from any visitor to our forum, then one may be compelled to reply to it.

I understand you were being ironic, but we don't keep any kind of diving quota. We have Busquets and Dani, who dive often. I don't like it, but let's speak up about this once and all: Diving is not the worst thing in football. People overeacts about diving.

Ask Ramsey, Eduardo or that CB in Zaragoza, that had to retire after a Figo tackle, what's the worst thing that can be done on a field. I'm pretty sure they'll agree it's rough tackles.

And for the spectators, boring defensive football is also much worse than diving.

diving is completely acceptable imo,as long as its not penalty seeking ala di maria or completely unnecessary like busquets

But you are always seeking a foul or something through diving, no?

I don't think it's acceptable, but I don't think it's that bad. Diving has a sanction if the ref sees it, a yellow card, which I think is a very proportionate sanction. That's it.

I was just being sarcastic about the quota thing, I know the clasico's is still a touchy subject and a bit raw.

You're playing a competitive knock-out match, it's the 80th minute and your team needs a goal to go through. You're in the area and get knocked on rather hard, you're not sure whether it was a foul or not but you felt contact enough to put you off-balance and now you can't score. What do you do?

95% of the people in that situation would fall easily upon contact, or "dive".

Dutch league isn't necessarily very soft (I'd say liga is softer tbh) and Suarez is a diver lol, moreso at Ajax than at Pool and Uruguay.

However, I agree that he would have been the perfect signing for you guys. I was actually kind of expecting that to happen: he is obviously very creative and thrives in small spaces, plus he is a very efficient finisher, especially in chaotic situations. I feel he would work well with Messi. He is a bit like Zlatan, but would work better in Barca's system, both character wise and in his slightly deeper role. Having both him and Messi in the front would leave you with two players who can't be let out of sight for a second by the opponent, both unpredictable and almost unstoppable and present everywhere, always, this would leave huge holes in their defenses.

More from a psychological point of view, I think it would also work well to have a playe with more character as an added impulse at Barca: Villa, Pedro and Sanchez are not very strong personalities to me, too neutral to give your team the mental edge when things are going wrong. Suarez is great at motivating a team when everyone else is giving up (which we have seen at Uruguay and VERY MUCH so at Ajax all the time). Not that things often go wrong with Barcelona, but in those cases where Messi can get frustrated (Argentina), Suarez could lift him up, whereas, say, Villa can't really.

You should try and buy him at some point, even though he will likely be absurdly expensive starting next season, it would make Barcelona unstoppable I think.
