Can't be talentless and make it big in Sports, far less for football. That's silly.

u picked 2 defensive minded players....
Pepe is a beast, his tackling is impeccable and his ability to read a game inside out is shown by few in this day and age when defenders get little to no credit due to little twats like you!
De Jong again is a fantastic tackler, sure he has made a couple of rash challenges but that is the risk you take playing that sort of position. his talents speak for themselves. he is a monster in the middle of the park and can pass and tackle pretty well

The first to come to mind was Gareth Barry.

Pointless thread.
If u are talentless u wont be even playing ametour football let alone getting contract with a professional club and play professional football.

i think the thread title wasn't clear, it meant to ask which are the player who might not have that much talent but have made their through hard work. but i dont think it is possible to make it to the top if they didnt have an ounce of talent.

Re: Most talentless footballers ever to make it big
'Least talented,' might have been reasonable, though even then names such as Inzaghi or Mascherano don't belong here. Inzaghi's not even that poor a player, his first touch is marvellously intelligent and he can run with the ball, however his movement and instinct is always the focus of any analysis which isn't very useful for a discussion such as this. How can you quantify instinct as a talent in comparison with someone who can weight a fifty yard pass or launch a perfect slide tackle? You can't teach someone how to be a poacher, it's largely an inherent quality and talent.
If the thread was to do with those least talented then we might also have to consider their potential and how they have been moulded to suit a particular style of game which 'reduces' their talent for the greater good of the team.
As for people who are only workhorses? If they are to actually succeed and justify the tag of 'having made it big' then a great deal of intelligence is required tactically to close space, work effectively to find the right spaces to receive a pass or reduce the pressure on a team mate, to intercept balls, break apart counter-attacks or simply stop an opposition player skipping past. A high work rate gives you very little in football, it merely makes those with superior talents even more dangerous.
Otherwise we can just list 'work horses' who have secured a transfer to a big team and who then proceed to do nothing.

bro no way messi isnt epl proven. ronaldo proved himself in two teams and leagues and he is a more complete player. he does stuf when he's dribbling, messi never does stepovers cause he doesnt know how. ronaldo is bigger and stronger and betterat freekicks. better long shot and heading. messi needs xavi and iniesta to score. ronaldo does it all himself.

Re: Most talentless footballers ever to make it big
Gattuso talentless? Really vibe? Gattuso is one of the most tactically intelligent players I have seen on a football pitch. Here is the "Medianos are born without any skill" stereotype
On topic; Muntari, Luther Blisset and Digao come to mind.
And the Stoke City XI.

Muntari doesn't deserve to be in the same tier as Digao.
I mean Digao was equivalent to something we won in a cereal box.

Re: Most talentless footballers ever to make it big
Ok first tell me, by talent he meant natural talents right? Like things you get from birth. Samba feet and etc? Thinking power and vision and etc is something u get while training...
Re: Most talentless footballers ever to make it big
Vision certainly isn't something that can be instilled in training. It can be fine tuned and improved, however the greatest talents are natural, including such traits as vision. You can't teach someone when the right time to release the ball is or which option from three to take, nor can you teach them to see something that no one else on the pitch can. From training one is more likely to gain consistency, however it's not the same thing as manufacturing that talent.
