How good is Kompany?

When ever he leaves his comfort zone that is PL he looks like absolute donkey.

He looks like a donkey in PL too. It's just the media that never ever say a single bad word about him for whatever effing reason.

Arguably a top 7 CB at Manchester City. Maybe top 12 in the area of Manchester

Yeah, I noticed that the commentators avoided saying that he was at fault for the first goal.

he's too inconsistent, he's alright and in this day and age i don't disagree with people who refer to him as "world class" simply by looking at the competition. i hate to do a "flash back or back to the past" here, but kompany on his best day couldn't lace the boots of thuram, hierro, staam, campbell, nesta, tony adams, et al on there's.

we look at people we may consider as top cb's now, who we compare to kompany, guys like my main men ramos and pepe (who have been stalwart to some degree this season), but have a reputation for being block heads, especially ramos, guys like pique (who i never ever ever rated, he has scored some brilliant goals but as a cb, puyol and barcelona's 90 percent ball possession really protected him), guys like david luiz for crying out loud...

these are among the people kompany competes with, and they all have been questioned to large degrees. someone once said on one of the forums here that defense had regressed, i'm not sure if that's true, but if kompany has been making a top ten defense list whether in epl or europe the last couple of years, it may be true....we (real madrid) haven't faced city often, but i've never been worried about kompany (knock on wood)...he's good for this time period, but in my eyes he's just an alright defender like many center backs......

maybe its a fault of the defensive mids and newer strategies in this era than it is the center backs, who knows

Yeah, he is inconsistent, but still one of the best CBs in the Prem anyway.

I find it funny that he acts all tough and menacing, but in his poor moments he actually looks scared and hesitant to act decisively.

He's part of the one of the best attacking teams of the past 5 years.
Look at his partners Demichelis, Nastatic, Lescott, Mangala, Kolo

He's their best CB.

No real "world class" defenders in the PL.

His on Skrtel's level.

Regarded highly because the level of talent in terms of others defenders around him are just low.

@Lex - Well never thought he was world class. Just as always thought he is defo a top 3 CB in the Prem.
Still think he is one of the best on his day, but that says a lot about the other CBs in this league as well.

City's entire back 4 need an overhaul tbh. Kompany, Mangala and Demichelis as their CBs. Wont win a thing with that pack they have got. Kompany needs to go, Mangala. and Demi is well... Only Zabaleta is good in there.

Zabaleta is just as overrated as Kompany tbh, constantly out of position and getting skinned. As Barca game showed his only resort is to dive and hope

didnt think that way. Yea he is a little overrated. demichelis though is past it. They need young legs. Agreed demi is their best CB right now.

You know what I meant. Last season Kompany wasnt as bad as this. Demichelis was an year younger and they didnt have the massive flop (dont want to jinx it, so will just add a 'so far' here ), called Mangala. First 2 have deteriorated with age where as their big money replacement so far has struggled . They need to buy to win again.

Such is the cycle. Mangala has been pretty awful. I'm really not sure why Pelle didn't give more of a chance to Nastasic.

Kompany has clearly regressed but I feel like people aren't taking into account Pellegrini's style of play. Maldini himself would struggle in that system as far as I'm concerned.

None of the creative City players work off the ball, no pressing, the two CM couldn't be arsed to help and track back either.

Agreed with Moal, Zabaleta has been horrible this season as well. Both Kompany and Zabaleta were the worst players on the pitch along with Yaya in the second half yesterday getting skinned left and right.

He was marked by GL banner jinx with Podolski and Pjanic  

jokes aside , he was GOAT in 2012 in that Premier League won under Mancini , he was top 3 BC easily that year , but he didn't repeat that performance anymore. We can easily saying it after 3 years
I can't still realize why he wasn't inserted in Premier League top 11 2014 when he wasn't even best City BC in 2nd half of season
Besides he has the fault to be bad expecially in big games .
I remind he didn't convince me fully not even during Anderlecht period ( he was very hyped ) and tbh he didn't improve in some his defects.
I wouldn't define Zabaleta overrated though , he was consistent for years ( contrarily he was underrated, because I can ensure he is enough underrated outside UK .  ) and he reached just few months ago a WC final with performances very good.
This year he wasn't same level than other years probably, but  when you must mark Messi..
Anyway still better than Clichy even to 50% of his form , for me the French is the most overrated City player . But that's another story...
