Not sure what the rules say but usually fielding ineligible players should result in a retrospective loss.

Also, the player didn't play vs. Celtic in first leg.

Surely if he is registered for 2nd leg, then he must have been registered for first leg ??

55 Ineligibility
1. If a player takes part in an official match despite being ineligible, his team will be sanctioned by forfeiting the match (cf. art. 31) and paying a minimum fine of CHF 6,000.

31 Forfeit
1. A team sanctioned with a forfeit is considered to have lost the match by 3-0.

Haven't looked to see what UEFA has to say on this issue since this is a two legged affair.

So forfeiting the match means 3-0 to Celtic. Legia won the the first leg 4-1. Comedy

Kick them both out of the CL and give a competent side their spot.

In the past Debrecen were handed a €15k fine for fielding an ineligible player. When Sion did it, they were guilty of much more.

Seems a little harsh to me, and previous incidents of this nature have resulted in fines rather than walkovers.

Bereszyński received a three-game ban after a red card last season, but allegedly wasn't registered for the two games with St Patrick's.


How can you register a banned player ?! , isn't the whole point of being suspended, is that you can't register them for the squad ? WTF

There is hope based on those latest tweets though. This for me is more important than anything Liverpool related atm.

Also, how bad a job can the people at the club do to field a player who's suspended? That's potentially a 25m+ euro mistake had they reached the CL group stage. And didn't the player know he was suspended? Incredible.
